The Opportunity
Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the permanent Head of Global Philanthropy Development. Save the Children has launched its ambitious 2019 – 2021 strategic plan with the aim of significantly increasing both unrestricted and smart restricted funds (smart restricted is defined as income from corporate partnerships and major donors that funds the priority programmes for children).
Global Philanthropy is a recent priority area within Save the Children International and increasingly strategic and crucial across the whole organisation.
The Head of Global Philanthropy Development will join the Global Fundraising & Marketing Hub of Save the Children International that provides strategic support and technical guidance to our national Members in Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America. A number of the team members work remotely and the location of this job is flexible. The role will involve travel to lead on and support philanthropy in new markets as well as more established ones.
This is a very senior role, interacting with senior fundraisers and leaders internationally. We are looking for an experienced and passionate professional to support, join up, and grow the global Save the Children community of philanthropy, and support and drive the global strategy for major gifts. .

QUALIFICATIONS
• Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
• MBA or Business-related masters ideally


EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
• A deep understanding of the breadth of NGO models that exist across the sector globally and a clear vision for how Save the Children can differentiate itself among its peers to be the organisation of choice
• A proven track record in leading and delivering within a large, complex organization with multiple stakeholders, preferably in an international development charity or similar
• A demonstrable and sophisticated understanding of the complexities of international philanthropy and associated challenges and solutions
• Proven experience of leading a new initiative or strategy to achieve desired growth outcomes
• Proven track record of developing and managing a major gifts portfolio and a proven track record for prospecting, cultivating, and closing gifts in a large charity or international organization
• Experience with wealth advisory work, venture capital, or private equity is preferred, as many individual contributions stem from Save the Children’s work with corporations
• Excellent written and presentation skills and confident ability to deliver verbal and written proposals up to CEO level
• Experienced in managing an opportunity/sales pipeline delivering successful outcomes
• Experience of negotiating, influencing and delivering results internally and externally
• Proven experience of providing creative and innovative approaches in developing new initiatives that contribute towards departmental targets
• Experience in budget management
• Experience with fundraising database systems, wealth screenings, and prospect tracking management and reporting.
• An established leader with personal gravitas and ability to work with senior executives
• Acts without guidance on a frequent basis, limited oversight required
• A proven team player. Someone who is open and who is able and willing to deliver beyond his or her personal brief
• Ability to network with, and influence, senior people both internally and externally in order to achieve a pre-defined outcome
• External orientation, someone who is focused on our supporters
• Proven ability to work collaboratively across departmental boundaries internally and externally to achieve shared organisational goals
• A strategic thinker who is able prioritise and balance a busy work load
• Someone with the skill to drive new initiatives in a large organisation
• Resilient during set-backs and able to lead others onto the next success
• High fluency in written and spoken English essential and second language of Member country ideally.
