JOB DETAILS:
Job Description Reporting directly to the Board through the Board Audit Committee, The internal auditor will be responsible for carrying out independent checks to assess the effectiveness of all the bank's activities and give an independent assurance of the bank's compliance with its internal control environment applicable regulations. The main aim of the Internal Audit function will be to ensure there is continuous improvement of the bank's operations and ensure it complies with regulations by performing assessments and Quality Assurance on the effectiveness of the bank's internal control, risk management, and governance processes. The internal auditor is responsible for planning audit assessments in all units within the bank and reporting the findings to the Board Risk and Compliance Committee. The candidate will ensure all the department activities are carried out within the budget by effectively organizing and applying resources. The candidate is an advisor to bank management and Board by creating strong awareness and understanding of the bank's business model and internal controls around each business process.

Responsibilities
• Determine the scope of internal Audit and develop annual plans
• Evaluate and Assess the effectiveness and adequacy of the internal control systems.
• Review the effectiveness of the entire risk management framework and operations
• Review ICT systems, including the Core Banking system, Mobile banking services, and any other peripheral and independent systems used to process customer transactions and bank information (e.g., Payroll systems e.t.c)
• Review financial and accounting records for accuracy and reliability.
• Report Audit findings and proposed Action to the Board Audit Committee
• Identify process breakdowns and operational loopholes and recommend mitigation measures and cost savings.
• Design a concurrent audit program, and conduct follow-up audits to ensure management's interventions and proposed mitigations are implemented as agreed.

Qualities and Skills
• Bachelors degree in Accounting, Economics, Business, or any other relevant field.
• 2-3 years experience in a similar role in a regulated financial institution
• Professional qualification in Accounting - CPA(K) or ACCA Finalist and must have good knowledge of Accounting and bank procedures
• CIA qualification will be an added advantage.
• Member of professional bodies like ICPAK,
• Must have a good grip of the CBK Prudential Guidelines, CBK Risk Management Guidelines, the Kenya Banking Act, and the Kenya Microfinance Act (2016)
• The candidate must be able to pay attention to detail in performing and reporting audits.
• Have in-depth accounting knowledge.
• Comply with the targets assigned in a timely and accurate manner.
Time and management skills to meet deadlines.
