JOB DETAILS:

Key Roles & Responsibility
• Manage Denmarks support to resilience, peace and justice in Kenya as outlined in the Strategic Framework. This includes handling all engagement with partners, other Embassy departments, administration, budget/financial and performance management, overseeing monitoring & evaluation (M&E) as pertains various support to peace and justice.
• Build and actively use relevant networks to support the Embassys agenda on democratic governance, security, justice, and rule of law. This includes maintaining and improving networks within government, civil society, development partners, think tanks and research institutions, private sector and other relevant stakeholders.
• Engage and remain informed on existing and emerging priorities and policies and identify and advise on opportunities for strategic engagement as per the focus of the position and Embassy priorities.
• Ensure strong linkages with other key departments in the Embassy and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs more broadly to ensure synergies between related programmes and policy efforts.
• Participate in coordination meetings and other relevant coordination mechanisms.
• Responsible for financial management (incl. timely closing of development engagements.), regular monitoring visits to programme partners in Kenya as well as political, social and economic analysis in the relevant areas.
• Contribute to Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) activities.
• Contribute to reporting and responding to requests from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Embassy senior management as well as to the preparation of various high-level visits and organization of seminars, functions and events organized by the embassy in the relevant field.
• Other duties as assigned, including providing support and back-up to other colleagues as needed.

Education and Desired Experience
• Relevant masters degree in peace and security, justice and human rights, international relations, development, political science, public administration, law or other relevant field.
• Understanding of issues related to security and conflict mitigation (including Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism, PCVE), access to justice and human rights are considered an asset.
• At least 3 years of relevant work experience with focus on development programme/project management and good knowledge of results-based management, administration, financial management, monitoring and evaluation.
• Experience in project administration and financial management of major development programmes, including formulation, managing consultancy contracts, audits, evaluations and reviews.
• Experience working for and/or interacting with development partners (donors) and/or international or multilateral organizations.
• Understanding of the Kenyan context especially in peace, security, human rights, and justice and rule of law sectors.
• Experience with writing analytical briefs and policy notes.
• Skilled in MS Office programs (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), and other relevant programmes and applications as well as ability to quickly familiarize oneself with other IT systems.

• Professionalism and maturity, understanding of what it means to work for a political organization.
• Knowledge of Danish and Nordic external funding structures and programs an asset.
• Knowledge of Danida or development work in general.
