JOB DETAILS:
Key Roles & Responsibility
• Responsible for implementing part of Denmark's new Inclusive Refugee Response Programme in Turkana. This includes handling dialogue with partners, administration, budget/financial and performance management, overseeing monitoring & evaluation (M&E) of several engagement.
• Build and actively use a relevant network to take forward the Embassy's agenda on refugees and humanitarian affairs more broadly, including within government, civil society, development partners, think tanks and research institutions, private sector.
• Liaise with other colleagues within the Embassy and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs more broadly to ensure strong linkages and synergies between related programmes and policy efforts on refugees and humanitarian affairs.
• Close cooperation and coordination with key stakeholders, including the National Government, the Department for Refugee Services (DRS), the County Government of Turkana, UNHCR, development partners, CSO partners and the private sector.
• Identify opportunities for communication and public diplomacy on refugees and humanitarian affairs.
• Participate in coordination meetings and other relevant coordination mechanisms.
• Plan and conduct periodic field trips to various locations in Kenya.
• Responsible for timely closing of development engagements.
• Contribute to Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) activities.
• Contribute to reporting and responding to requests from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Embassy senior management as well as to the preparation of various high-level visits.
• Other duties as assigned, including providing support and back-up to other colleagues as needed.
• Education and Desired Experience
• Relevant masters degree in international relations, development, political science, refugee/humanitarian affairs; or other relevant field.
• At least 3 years working experience in programme administration/management in refugee and/or humanitarian related aspects of development with good knowledge of results-based management, administration, financial management, monitoring and evaluation.
• Experience working for and/or interacting with development partners (donors) and/or international or multilateral organizations.
• Understanding of refugee and humanitarian affairs and the interplay between the peace, humanitarian and development nexus.
• Experience with writing analytical briefs and policy notes and with driving policy and programmatic change based on state-of-the-art technical standards.
• Experience in project administration/management of major development programmes, including project cycle management and notable experience in financial monitoring of large budgets.
• Skilled in MS Office programs (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), and other relevant programmes and applications as well as ability to quickly familiarize oneself with other IT-systems.
• Skills, Knowledge and Attributes

• Driven, curious and willing to engage and learn even outside ones own areas of work.
• Flexibility and ability to prioritize and plan daily work according to evolving needs, often with short deadlines and shifting tasks.
• Ability to work independently and in a structured and effective manner, with attention to detail and results.
• Excellent English oral and written communication and presentation skills, strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences. Danish language skills an asset.
• Team player with excellent interpersonal skills, motivated by cooperating with a diverse mix of professionals and different cultures. Ability to build and maintain networks.
• Professionalism, willingness to work for a political organization.
• Knowledge of Danish and Nordic external funding structures and programs an asset.
• Knowledge of Danida or development work in general.
