Registrar, Magistrates Courts

Requirements

For appointment to the position of Registrar of the High Court, the applicant must possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Hold a law degree from a recognized university;
  • Be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
  • Has, since admission to the Roll of Advocates attained at least ten years’ experience as a legal practitioner;
  • Hold a post graduate Diploma in Law;
  • Attended a Senior Management Course; and
  • Meets the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution;

  • Analytical & Negotiation Skills;
  • Organizational and planning skills;

  • Research and Data Management Skills

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Day to day administration of the Magistrates’ Courts in Kenya.
  • Establishing and maintaining of the Registry of the Court(s)
  • Acceptance, transmission, service and custody of documents in accordance with the Rules;
  • Maintaining of the Register of the Court(s);
  • Causing to be kept records of the proceedings and minutes of the meetings of the Courts and such other records;
  • Managing and supervising the staff of the Court(s);
  • Facilitating access to judgments and records of the Court(s);
  • ensuring there is uniform and efficiency in the registry operations across all courts;
  • Budgeting and ensuring efficient and effective utilization of resources and
  •  Undertaking any other duties assigned by Chief Registrar of the Judiciary

Registrar, High Court

Requirements

  •  Meets the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution;

Duties and Responsibilities

The function and powers of the Registrar, High Court is provided for under Section 20 of the High Court (Organization and Administration) Act, namely;

  • setting up of the registry and maintenance of the registers of the Court;
  • Day to day administration and management of the Court;
  • overseeing of support services in the Court including the planning, development and the organization of staff;
  • monitoring of administration and office procedures to uphold efficiency and quality of service;
  • planning, preparation and implementation of the budget of the Court;
  • preparing of reports and proposals on administrative issues as may be required from time to time;
  • overseeing the procurement and disposal of assets;
  • acceptance, transmission, service and custody of documents in accordance with the law;
  • facilitating the enforcement of the decisions of the Court;
  • certificating of any order, direction or decision as an order, direction or decision of the Court, the Chief justice or a Judge, as the case may be;
