Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:
- Master's Degree in Library Studies, Library Science, Information Science or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
- Bachelor's Degree in Library Studies, Library Science, Information Science or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;
- Served in the grade of Senior Librarian Grade 13 or in a comparable position for a minimum period of three (3) years;
- Published two (2) articles in peer reviewed journals;
- Certificate in Senior Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks will be an added advantage;
- Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution;
- Demonstrated professional and administrative ability required for efficient performance of duties at this level;
- Registered with relevant professional body; and
- PhD degree will be an added advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Deputy University Librarian will be responsible to University Librarian. Duties responsibilities at this level will entail:
- Standardizing of cataloging, classification, indexing and dissemination of information;
- Coordinating of unified list of periodicals in the University's information centres libraries;
- Managing the establishment of Library Information Centres in the institution;
- Supervising, guiding and counseling of library staff;
- Monitoring publishing trends to advise on procurement of latest library information materials;
- Communicating and interpreting library policies, procedures, to users;
- Coordinating, weeding and discarding of library materials;
- Facilitating cataloguing of data for library materials in line with established international standards;
- Providing input in the development and review of library technical service manual;
- Preparing work plans and quarterly reports for the library;
- Managing the library web site;
- Monitoring and Evaluation of the Library management system;
- Ensuring that service points function effectively; and
- Promoting innovation and keeping abreast with new technological trends.
