Company Overview

Lancet Laboratories is one of the leading pathology laboratories operating throughout Africa, providing vital diagnostic and monitoring pathology services in South Africa, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Committed to providing diagnostic excellence, Lancet Laboratories is SANAS accredited, adhering to international criteria set out according to ISO Standard 15189.

Lancet Laboratories operates in the private healthcare environment and offers specialist pathology services for the corporate, insurance and mining sectors. We process up to 1.8 million tests per month and offer an extensive range of pathology services, from sophisticated molecular and cytogenetic investigations to advanced chemical analyses.

Lancet Laboratories is owned as a traditional medical partnership, where pathologists provide a professional diagnostic pathology service and are also shareholders in the business. More than eighty specialist pathologists, each with their area of expertise, lead the service, not only to ensure the quality and validity of investigations, but also to offer consultative services to physicians, managed healthcare institutions, the occupational health environment and the insurance and industry sectors.

Our History

Established almost 60 years ago in the heart of Johannesburg’s central business district, Lancet Laboratories is one of South Africa’s original private pathology laboratories.

In 1996 the main laboratory moved out of the CBD and into the suburb of Richmond. Strategically situated next to Johannesburg’s main highway, our current location enables us to effectively service the whole of the Gauteng region.

In 2000, Lancet Laboratories merged with the Durban pathology practice, Pillay MacIntosh & Partners, helping to expand our geographical footprint and consolidate pathology expertise. Prior to this merger, Pillay MacIntosh commenced operations in 1986 and rapidly grew throughout KwaZulu-Natal. Historically, a referral system between the two laboratories had always existed, making this union a natural progression and formalisation of the relationship.

More recently, Lancet Laboratories merged with the Dyson and Niehaus Laboratories in Pretoria and the Independent Pathology Services in Alberton, Johannesburg. This has allowed us to extend our reach in the province of Gauteng and importantly, it enables us to deliver efficient turn-around times to the satisfaction of our clients. Today, Lancet Laboratories continues to grow and develop, with a special focus on bringing cutting edge pathology services to the continent. In addition to South Africa, we currently operate in Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
