Background
The role is within the automotive lubricants retail industry, focusing on promoting and selling a full range of lubricants to various clients in Kahawa West and nearby areas.
Duties and Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
- Actively promote and sell the shop’s full range of lubricants including engine oils, gear oils, ATF, hydraulic oils, coolants, greases, and specialty products.
- Approach garages, mechanics, bodaboda operators, car wash stations, and spare parts shops within Kahawa West and nearby areas to generate new sales opportunities.
- Execute daily sales follow-ups with potential clients to convert leads into repeat customers.
- Work towards achieving weekly and monthly sales targets set by management.
Customer Engagement & Product Advisory
- Welcome and assist walk-in customers with accurate technical advice on lubricant selection based on vehicle type, OEM specifications, viscosity grade, and application.
- Explain the benefits, performance differences, and maintenance intervals of various lubricant brands.
- Handle customer queries and provide after-sales support to ensure customer satisfaction and retention.
Shop Operations & Merchandising
- Ensure the shop is well-organized, clean, and products are properly displayed and labeled.
- Conduct daily product checks to ensure shelf stock is adequate and items are rotated according to expiry or manufacturing dates (FIFO method).
- Assist in stock receiving, unpacking, labeling, and arranging new deliveries.
Inventory & Stock Management
- Monitor lubricant stock levels, fast-moving items, and slow-moving products, and report to management for timely reordering.
- Maintain updated inventory records and minimize stockouts or excess stock situations.
- Identify counterfeit products in the market and ensure only genuine lubricants are sold.
Sales Administration & Reporting
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports showing targets vs. achieved sales.
- Record all customer orders, invoices, and transactions accurately.
- Track credit customers (if applicable) and ensure timely follow-ups and reconciliations.
Market Intelligence
- Stay updated on automotive lubricant trends, customer preferences, and competitor pricing or promotions.
- Provide management with insights that can help refine pricing, product lineup, and sales strategies.
Brand Representation
- Uphold the shop’s reputation by delivering ethical sales practices and maintaining professionalism.
- Build strong relationships with customers, mechanics, and market influencers in the automotive service ecosystem.
Key Requirements Skills and Qualification
- Diploma in Sales & Marketing or a related field
- Must have prior experience selling automotive lubricants
- Strong understanding of different types of lubricants and their applications (engine oils, gear oils, hydraulic oils, greases, etc.)
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail
- Honest, self-motivated, and target-driven
