JOB DETAILS:
Interpeace is an independent, international peacebuilding organization. We were initially established in 1994 by the United Nations to develop innovative solutions to build peace. We have a proven and recognized approach to enable people to build lasting peace.
Scope of the internship:
Working as a member of the Somali Programme, under the supervision of the Senior Programme Officer, the intern will provide support to Interpeace’s Somali Programme. S/he will gain insights into the process of programme management, budget development, report writing, concept note and proposal development and developing communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
A skilled supervisor will guide and mentor the intern during the internship. This includes:
• Discussing and setting the development objectives for the internship period with the intern
• Providing the resources and support required to meet the requirements and development objectives of the internship
• Providing mentorship and regular feedback on performance
• Issuing an internship certificate .

Specific duties include but are not limited to:
• Drafting monthly updates of the Somali programme on the basis of the weekly reports received from the Somali partners and Interpeace’s field teams in Hargeisa, Garowe and Mogaidishu
• Assist in compiling information and data for producing the annual and bi-annual donor reports and programme documents for 2020
• Liaise with the Communication Team in preparing success stories and web stories that capture key programme outcomes
• Assist the Somali programme in researching and compiling data needed when preparing concept notes and proposals
• Provide support in drafting correspondences (letters and forwarding emails) for sending to internal and external stakeholders
• Scheduling and maintaining the Somali programme meeting calendar as guided by the Country Coordinator
• Providing additional support to the Interpeace Somali team as called upon


Skills that the intern will develop and knowledge that the intern will acquire:
• An understanding of programme management
• An understanding of peacebuilding dynamics in several conflict and post-conflict contexts
• Open source research skills to provide sound analysis of conflict dynamics
• Drafting written communication (briefs, letters, e-mails, etc.)
• Drafting documents for internal and external audiences


Stipend
A stipend is offered throughout the internship period.
• Current pursuit of an undergraduate degree (Bachelor) in Political Science, International Relations, Peace and Conflict Studies, Development Studies, or related field and able to dedicate six months to a full-time internship with the university’s/education institution’s agreement or
• Completion of an undergraduate degree (Bachelor) in Political Science, International Relations, Peace and Conflict Studies, Development Studies, or related field and pursuing a Master’s degree in the near future. Applicants will need to provide an attestation from the education institution where the candidate seeks to pursue the graduate degree attesting that this internship is aligned and will contribute to the educational purpose of the graduate degree or
• Recent completion of a Master’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, Peace and Conflict Studies, Development Studies, or related field
• A strong desire to learn about peacebuilding while making a worthwhile contribution of time and effort to Interpeace
• Fluent written and spoken English; good written and spoken Somali is an added advantage
• Good knowledge of common MS computer applications
• Ability to multi-task
• Excellent proven organization and communications skills
