About Us: The Cleveland Division of Police (CDP) is the primary government law enforcement agency responsible for maintaining order, protecting lives and property, and enforcing the law within Cleveland, Ohio. Established originally on May 1, 1866 under the Metropolitan Police Act, it operates as a sub-agency under the city's Department of Public Safety. The agency functions out of five distinct geographical districts with over 1,500 active personnel. It famously underwent sweeping modernizations in the 1930s under legendary safety director Eliot Ness, creating the district-based structural framework that continues to guide their community-oriented policing model.
