- Overview: Founded in 2005 by author J.K. Rowling, Lumos is an international non-profit organization fighting to end the institutionalization of children globally. The organization works to ensure every child can realize their right to grow up in a safe, permanent, and loving family environment.
- Operations in Kenya: Operating actively in Kenya since 2018, Lumos partners directly with the Kenyan Directorate of Children Services and local civil society. They provide technical guidance, parenting toolkits, and specialized community tracking to align with Kenya’s National Care Reform Strategy.
- Core Impact Programs: They focus on transitioning children out of traditional residential orphanages into domestic kinship or foster care arrangements. Key initiatives include the National Positive Parenting Programme to prevent family separation and the establishment of local Youth Advisory Boards to include the voices of young people with lived experience in policy decisions
