The Quality and Policies we believe and nurture

From the beginning quality and food safety has been our primary goal, ensuring the highest standards are maintained right from the field where our quality ingredients sourced to the point where our consumers buy our products or consume them.
To ensure that our systems work, we have invested a lot of time and effort in our food safety systems and continue to improve the system year after year. Whilst we have attained the ISO22000 FSSC standard in two of our units we continue to ensure all our processing units operate under the highest standards with the goal to certify all units in due course.

1978s The Start

Njoro Canning - The Begining

Mr. T.K.Patel and his family buy the canning plant originally established in 1936

1980s Joint Venture

Joint Venture Agreement

1981 - A joint venture agreement is established with
a French company SAUPIQUET, to produce
canned French beans for the French market.


1982 - Hortiequip Ltd; a subsidiary of NCF is
created to supply French beans to the
factory,through 20,000 contracted farmers in
Vihiga district.

1990s The Expansion

The era of expansion and growth

1990 - A new agreement is signed with French
company BONDUELLE after they take over
the vegetable section of SAUPIQUET.

1992 - Invests in a concentration plant to produce
juices and concentrates for the Local/Regional
market.

1996 - Invests in Vegetable freezing and dehydration plants to process vegetables for regional & export market. 

1996 - Establishes a French bean growing project in
Litein under Hortiequip Ltd

1997 - The French bean plant is upgraded/
renovated to meet European standards.

1997 - Embarks on training and implementation of
HACCP Food Safety Management System.

1999 - Bonduelle stops working with NCF due to
their own investment in Cameroon &Zimbabwe.

2000 The embankment of a new century

New aims with new century

2000 - Starts business with another French company CODIMEX to supply canned French beans

2001 - Another investment in the freezing line to produce frozen potato chips and other vegetables.

2001 - Introduces the “Golden Valley “brand to the Kenyan market.

2003 - Stops exportation of beans to Europe due to market problems.

2003 - Invests in a spice milling plant after signing a supply contract with Unilever (K).

2003 - Buys 50% shares from Kenya Orchards Ltd and appoints them distributors of the“Golden Valley” range of products.

2004 - Signs a canned French bean supply contract with French company ROCHEFONTAINE

2004 - Obtains HACCP food safety management system Certification.

2008 - Obtains BRC (British Retail Consortium) certification on food safety management and embarks on training and implementation of ISO 22K food safety management system.

2008 - Stops exportation of beans to Europe due to market problems

2008 - Re organizes distributorship system and appoints distributors for Golden Valley and Kenya Orchards.

2010 - October–Revamping the French Beans Project for Export.

2010s The Expansion

Stepping into the Digital Era

2011 - Acquires / renews BRC (British Retail Consortium) Certification on Food Safety Management having passed with GRADE A

2012 - Undertaken supplies to United Nations
operations in Somalia, Congo Missions.

2013 - Spice factory gets ISO 22000-FSSC.

2015 - Canning plant gets ISO 22000-FSSC.
