The early childhood care, education and development ecosystem in Africa is failing millions of children who are missing the opportunity to have a better start in life. Uthabiti Africa exists to change this.
We create partnerships with governments and key organizations to catalyze systemic change in the early childhood care, education and development
Uthabiti is the Nairobi-based African non-profit that exists to accelerate early childhood care, education and development (ECCED) in Africa.
We create partnerships with governments and key resource organizations to catalyze systemic change in the early childhood care education and development ecosystem. Our collaborative approach consistently prioritizes women’s agency while placing children at the center. It enables the sector to meet both current and latent demands for early childhood care and education services in urban Africa, especially among low-income families.
Formed in 2019, we are piloting our work in Kenya, with the intention of expanding to other African countries.
Uthabiti Africa currently focuses on 4 areas of change:
Collaboration and Learning Uthabiti Africa exists to make sure all children 0-8 years old across Africa have an opportunity to survive and thrive. Together we envision a time where all children 0-8 years have access to quality, affordable early childhood care, education and development, thereby being able to survive and thrive. A time when girls and women carers have a supportive working environment and all families are able to access quality and affordable early childhood care and education. We will catalyze investments in transformative solutions that will accelerate quality, affordable early childhood care, education and development for millions of children in Africa. With the Collaborative Action for Childcare as our signature initiative, we will prioritize investments in women’s agency in the sector, enabling the certification and licensing of childcare workers and accelerating the growth of women-led childcare enterprises. We will be the partner of choice for policy and regulatory reform on early childhood care and education, thereby transforming the lives of millions of children and their carers, with governments in the lead. Our work will be grounded in the experiences of women carers and the children in marginalized urban communities in Africa. By working collaboratively with a broad range of actors in the early childhood care and education ecosystem in Africa, we enable children to access quality care that improves their health, wellbeing and development. We work at national level, with a specific initial focus on Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa Counties. We are also expanding our work to Kajiado, and Busia Counties. Our Mission
