The institution was completed in 2017 and handed over to Michiuki Technical Training Institute to oversee its management until August 2017 when the principal was posted. The college admitted its first trainees in January 2018 in the following courses: craft in Electrical Engineering, ICT, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Hairdressing. The college is a Centre of Excellence in Mechanical Engineering, having received mechanical production equipment, computers, and furniture supplied by the Government of Kenya in January 2018. As of June 2019, the college had a total population of 150 trainees in four departments. Currently, the institution has grown significantly, boasting 8 departments and a student population of about 1,500. The college is located 26 km from Thika town along the Gatanga–Ndakaini road.
