Biomedical Technologist

Position Summary
Reporting to the Biomedical Engineer, the Bio-Medical technologist is responsible for ensuring proper functioning, safety and sound condition of all medical equipment and that they are in optimum maintenance condition and available for use.

Main Duties
• Carry out preventive maintenance, repairs to ICU, Theatres, Renal, Laboratory, Physical Medicine, wards equipment and other areas of the Hospital
• Carry out preventive maintenance, repairs to all equipment and items of plant assigned to him from time to time
• Keep records of all job cards, PPM schedules and tasks as performed
• Handle all biomedical equipment job requests
• Carry out periodic checks and inspections of bio-medical equipment within the hospital to establish repairs and maintenance requirements
• Recommend materials and supplies for requisition within the workshop stores necessary for efficient delivery of services
• Ensure tidiness and safety of workstations and sites within the hospital
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the department and provide reports as required
• Any other duty as may be allocated by the supervisor from time to time

Required Qualifications for the Position
• Diploma in Medical Engineering
• Minimum KSCE grade C
• Be a registered member of Association of Medical Engineering Kenya (AMEK)
• At least 2 years’ experience in the same field
• Experience in a hospital industry is an added advantage.

JOB DETAILS:
3 Nurses

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Assessing patient needs for nursing services.
• Verification and maintaining information relating to patients’ admissions.
• Providing appropriate healthcare services including Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI), immunization, reproductive health services, ante-natal care, and delivery.
• Providing health education and counseling to patients/clients and community on identified health needs.
• Refer patients/clients appropriately.
• Keeping records of drugs and supplies.
• Prepare various daily, weekly, and monthly MoH reports and participates in appropriate meetings.
• Guiding, supervising, and counseling staff under him/her in performing routine duties.
• Implementation of community health strategy with other workers
• Any other Health duties as may be assigned from to time.

Requirements
• Have a diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse from Kenya medical training college or a recognized nursing training institution. OR Certificate in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Enrolled Nurse, Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nurse, Kenya Enrolled Midwife or Enrolled Nurse/Midwife from Kenya medical training college or a recognized training institution.
• Be Registered & Licensed by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
• Be in good professional standing with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
• At least one year of experience in a busy hospital.

JOB DETAILS:
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Consultation– Attend to inpatients and outpatient patients strictly following the set policies, procedures, and protocols of the Hospital.
• Diagnosis – Assess collected information and test. Utilize medical knowledge and expertise to establish a diagnosis.
• Treatment – Ensure all prescribed treatment and procedures are administered and conducted accurately and on time by the clinical team.
• Report writing – Prepare a structured medical report for each patient capturing background information of ailment, medical history, physical examination, specimen obtained, and suggested treatment.
• File patient files – Ensure all necessary documentation as required is done in a timely manner and recorded as per the Hospital policies.
• Health and Safety– Comply with established health and safety policies with regard to the handling of instruments, storage of drugs, and disposal of sharps and other potentially dangerous equipment and substances.
• Advise patients on Health – Educate and counsel on improving health and preventing disease and interventions or treatments that treat risk factors.
• Training – Actively participate in all clinical and administrative activities at the Departmental and Institutional levels such as CMEs, Audits, etc.

Qualifications & Requirements
• Masters of Medicine in Internal Medicine
• Bachelor of Medicine or Bachelor of Surgery
• Practicing license from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council

Roles and Responsibilities:
• Complete the Shamiri Hub Supervisor training program, and attend and assess the Fellow training.
• Help with the orientation, onboarding, and training of Fellows.
• Undertake necessary continuous professional development.
• Act as a line of communication between Fellows and Shamiri Hub coordinator.
• Supervise Fellows throughout their tenure (training through to program wrap-up) and attend all program sessions to which you are assigned, ensuring to always arrive on time.
• Manage assigned school relationship(s)
• Assist with the logistical aspects of program delivery, particularly in preparation for and during program delivery at schools.
• Manage any clinical cases brought to you by Fellows.
• Attend all meetings with fellow Shamiri Hub Supervisors and Shamiri Hub Coordinator, and relay information to Fellows promptly when necessary.
• Attend supervision meetings with the designated Shamiri Supervisor.
• Ensure the health, safety, and confidentiality of Fellows and program participants - with supervision
• Write weekly reports on the occurrences of the week (e.g. reported emergency cases, challenges, positive highlights, etc.)
• Help resolve basic-level issues and disputes among Fellows.

Requirements:
• Have a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counselling, or clinical psychology, and some past experience in counselling, wellness psychology, or mental health work.
• Demonstrate the ability to recognize and reflect on one's own values, attitudes, beliefs, biases, emotions, and past experiences.
• Demonstrate the ability to use mistakes as opportunities for growth.
• Demonstrate interest in helping others and ensuring their confidentiality, fair treatment, safety, and well-being.
• Demonstrate commitment to the broad scope of values, ethics, and goals at the height of the Shamiri mission.
• Possess strong organization and problem-solving skills; show that you are highly responsible.
• Possess a strong desire to learn.
• Possess strong time management skills and a strong sense of punctuality.
• Possess strong communication skills both with supervisors and the hub coordinator.
• Possess some basic writing skills.
• Fluency in English and Kiswahili.
• Fluency in Luo is an added advantage.
