JOB DETAILS:
The Consultant Writer will focus on the three core pillars of UNEP's programme of work climate change, nature and biodiversity loss and pollution and waste. He/she will produce well-researched, innovative stories, messages, other written content to engage the public on issues related to the three thematic pillars of UNEP’s work: climate change, nature and biodiversity loss and pollution and waste. Under the supervision of the Head Writer, the consultant will perform the following duties:
• Liaise with UNEP's communication division and subprogramme coordinators to identify, research, conduct interviews and develop story ideas on climate change, nature and biodiversity loss and pollution and waste-related issues.
• Draft stories, interactive texts, campaign content and web copy for UNEP and partner websites to support UNEP's policy positions and advocacy goals on - climate change, nature and biodiversity loss and pollution and waste.
• Follow the news agenda on these topics and proactively identify and pitch topics for stories.

Qualifications/special Skills
• Masters degree in journalism, communication, international relations, social sciences or other related field is required, a first level university degree with an additional two years of qualifying experience maybe accepted in lieu of the masters degree.
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public information, communication, programme management or related field is required.

Duties and responsibilities
An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a Senior Officer. Specific duties and responsibilities will entail;
1. Collecting and compiling economic and trade related data;
2. Disseminating trade information to the business community;
3. Compiling recovery of loans owed to the Joint Loans Board (JBL);
4. Facilitating international trade promotion activities through trade fairs and exhibitions; and,
5. Participating in the implementation of trade related development projects

Requirements for Appointment
1. Be a Kenyan Citizen;
1. Bachelor's degree in any of the following disciplines: Commerce, Marketing, Business Administration, Business Management, Entrepreneurship, International Trade/Business/Relations or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
2. Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution; and,
3. Demonstrate a high degree of professional competence, managerial capabilities and initiatives in organization and management as reflected in work performance and results.
