The Role
• The Communications Assistant will provide support to the COSME project team mainly through designing and implementation of the project communication plan, collecting and documenting significant change stories, events, taking impact photographs and supporting with content for digital media and external engagement.

Accountabilities And Main Work Activities
Documentation 35%
• Documenting stories of change and case studies for the COSME project and related programs that impact on the project work in both Kwale and Kilifi Program Units. (PU’s).
• Coordinating with Project staff to ensure that stories for the weekly highlight are submitted and shared with the country communications team every week for internal circulation.
• Ensuring that child protection and safeguarding standards are adhered to during all communications related work from content development to dissemination

Photography and Videography 30%
• Taking high resolution photos and short videos for use on different platforms including the website, publications and on social media
• Editing photos (when there is a need to) and short videos to ensure good quality of work

Events and Supporting Project Activities 15%
• Supporting ongoing project and corporate events and activities through photography, story collection and media engagement in consultation with Influencing, advocacy and Communications Manager
• Supporting in organising events selected calendar days related to the project that Plan International commemorates

Custodian of Departmental Equipment 10%
• Ensuring that the cameras, recorders and accompanying accessories assigned to the project at the PU are taken care of by keeping an inventory list to keep track.

Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) 5%
• Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
• Leads the orientation of programme staff to ensure that they are properly inducted on and understands their role in upholding Plan International’s safeguarding and GEI policies;
• Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in project design, during implementation and as principles applied in day-to-day work of Programme team;
• Ensures that Plan Kenya contributes to Plan International’s global efforts to ensure safeguarding and GEI, including making sure that relevant reporting and data are submitted.

How can you make a difference?
The Social and Behaviour Change Specialist (Immunization/Health) reports to the SBC Regional Adviser (RA). Under the supervision and guidance of the RA, and in close collaboration with the Health section, the incumbent will provide technical assistance to UNICEF Country Offices (COs) in Eastern and Southern Africa region (ESAR) on overall SBC, but particularly contributing to the achievement of: 1- specific regional priorities, with a focus on addressing drivers and barriers associated to addressing maternal, neonatal and under-five mortality through primary health care; and, 2- the Immunization Agenda 2030, a global strategy to leave no one behind.
The SBC Specialist will provide support to all countries in ESAR on the development of systematic, planned and evidence-based and theory driven SBC strategies aiming at increasing sustainable demand and uptake of essential health services, including immunization. The incumbent will also support capacity building of UNICEF staff and partners on SBC, with particular emphasis on research and analysis (including human-centered design), evidence-based planning (with emphasis on micro-planning), implementation of demand promotion interventions (including behavioural insights), preparedness and response to vaccine-related events, community engagement, capacity development on front line workers, and monitoring and evaluation of demand promotion interventions.

Key function, accountabilities and related duties/tasks
• Technical support and oversight to countries: support UNICEF ESAR COs on the development of evidence-based SBC initiatives and plans aiming at sustainably increasing demand and uptake of essential health services, in particular those related to immunization and maternal and neonatal child health.
• Generate and Use Evidence: support ESARO COs and their counterparts on the generation, analysis and utilization of SBC data to inform the design, testing, measurement, and monitoring of programmes, interventions and outcomes aiming at increasing the uptake of essential health services in both development and emergency contexts. This includes not only demand-related components, but also service-related aspects such as the improvement of quality of services and the adjustment of service delivery modalities to reach all.
• Advocate and Build Partnerships: Support the operationalization of SBC by advocating and mobilizing resources, coordinating across stakeholders, sectors and teams, and building alliances and partnerships in the region.
• Build Capacities: Promote continuous learning, strengthening, and scaling up in SBC for both development and humanitarian contexts through capacity building for UNICEF staff, partners and implementers in the region.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have
• An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in social and behavioral science, sociology, anthropology, psychology, education, communication, public relations or other related social science field is required.
• A minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience in strategic planning for social and behaviour change with a strong focus on community engagement, behavioural science, social norm programming and participatory communication with at least 4 years served in a developing country leading/supporting SBC.
• Proven competence in practical application of Risk Communication and Community Engagement applied to immunization in health outbreak (preparedness and response) is required.
• Relevant experience in related areas in a UN system agency or organization is an asset.
• Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

As a member of the External Affairs team, you will report to the Compliance & Safety Superintendent, and you will be responsible for leading the public relations functions to promote the Base Brand both internally and externally. This is by ensuring that the public and media are informed of the positive work Base is engaged in through the dissemination of information relating to its operations, community, environment, training, and other programmes.

The main duties will include but are not limited to:

• Administration and maintenance of the Base Titanium website and social media platforms
• Production of the quarterly Usemi Wetu newsletter and the internal Base Drum as well as other PR materials
• Development of branding materials such as advertorials, handouts, and presentations
• Managing the photo library
• Oversight of corporate styling and ensuring branding guidelines are adhered to for all documentation
• Arranging in-house and external events and other functions
• Undertaking university group and other external site tours

To succeed you will require:
• Proficiency in the application of Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
• Creative graphics and design capability

• High quality photography skills are a plus.
• Fluency in Swahili is required, a foreign language is an added advantage.
