JOB DETAILS:

Duties;
• Carry all duties under the direct supervision of AAR Japan’s international staff;
• Liaise with stakeholders (local authorities, local-led organizations in communities or other agencies in education sector) to conduct a construction project;
• Develop tendering documents, construction documents (i.e. BOQ);
• Pay a site visit to a construction site(s) to monitor the construction progress and give a contractor instruction for the way forward;
• Provide professional information and views on engineering or construction to AAR Japan’s international staff when needed;
• Conduct a pre/post survey to assess the impact of the project, analyze and compile collected data;
• Write a monthly report and submit to AAR Japan’s international staff every month to report the progress of the project implementation;
• Perform any other duties instructed by AAR Japan’s international staff

Requirements;
• More than 7 years’ experience in construction as an engineer;
• Construction experience in the refugee set up is greatly valued;
• Work experience with UN agencies or international NGOs is highly valued;
• Fluent language skills of English;
• Team-work skills;
• Communication skills;
• Independency and professionalism;
• PC skills (Microsoft Office is a must);
• CAD or other construction-related software is a must;

Period (subject to change due to internal circumstances);
From 31st March 2023 to 31st December 2023 with 3-month probation period

Salary (Gross);
• Gross amount of 100,000 KES to 145,600 KES per month (amount will be determined based on experiences or skills)

Main accountabilities and Responsibilities
• Welding, repair, rebuilding and fabrication of aluminium, cast-iron, stainless steel and mild steel products.
• Sheet metal fabrication
• Drawing and designing sheet metal and structural drawings
• Interpreting engineering drawings
• Handling workshop processes of; fabrication, precision fitting, machining and pipe fitting.
• Operation, repair and maintenance of welding machines which includes; TIG, MIG, ARC. Gas welding and cutting sets, etc.
• Precision use of metal cutting machines like; laser cutting, water jet, plasma cutting and shearing machines
• Operation of CNC welding and cutting machines
• Surface preparation and coating of metals which includes powder coating and zinc metalizing,
• Heat treatment of metals
• Repair of moulds, dies, jigs, formers and fixtures
• Planning and execution of work including leading a team

Qualifications and Experience
• Holder of diploma in mechanical engineering(production option)from a reputable institution, or final craft certificate and demonstrated experience in a busy workshop
• Over 5 years of sound continuous and detailed experience in welding in terms of TIG, MIG, ARC and gas welding relative to aluminium, cast-iron, alloys and stainless steel among others.
• Conversant with using hot work permits, JSA and all applicable occupational health and safety procedures
• Conversant with fire safety
• Conversant with all advanced welding tools and methodologies,
• Conversant with all workshop processes;

Additionally, SREs will keep an ever-watchful eye on our system's capacity and performance. They set up standards for monitoring and alerting that is followed by service owners across the company. They focus on tooling and automation to make it easy for service owners to adopt SRE best practices.

What you will do:
• Architect and build infrastructure to support the platform using a variety of GCP tools and technologies
• Be responsible for network, security and systems monitoring, alert standards and drive adoption across engineering and data teams
• Set up a 24x7 tier-1 support process to respond quickly to issue

What you need to excel in this role:
Data-driven approach and ability to quickly and effectively resolve problems
• Fluent coding ability with application programming as well as scripting languages (any of ruby, python, json, yaml, rest, node js, java, goland, psql)
• Strong and hands-on knowledge of GCP services, tools and best practices
• Understanding of web application architecture and security best practices (e.g. OWASP Top 10)
• Experience with server provisioning/configuration management tools, CI/CD experience, and managing the deployment flow from code commit to production release
