The Climate Policy Director Africa position is a senior role that will be responsible for analyzing climate and forestry policy, as well as voluntary and compliance market and REDD+ regulation as emerging across Africa, and for identifying and implementing opportunities for Wildlife Works’ active participation in the creation of the carbon markets in Africa. The Climate Policy Director position will be preferably be based in Nairobi or Accra and will be part of the global Policy and External Affairs Department (PEAD) based in the UK. While the position focuses on Africa and will work closely with Wildlife Works regional and country teams in Africa, collaboration across regions to foster south-south collaboration particularly between the DRC, Brazil and Indonesia will be part of the role.

Responsibilities:
• Carry out policy and legislative research on domestic climate policies, National Determined Contributions, forest conservation strategies (REDD+) as well as voluntary and compliance carbon pricing plans across countries of interest to WWC in Africa.
• Develop and implement high-level government engagement strategies to foster south-south collaboration between governments on creating investment environments and REDD+ regulation that attract private finance.
• Develop and implement an advocacy strategy to develop an African perspective on quality REDD+ credits and promote its adoption in national regulation, in close collaboration with WWC departments.
• Be a main contact and spokesperson for WWC’s quality REDD+ projects in the region.
• Support feasibility studies and build government relations as needed.
• Support communications strategies with public and expert audiences as needed.
• Develop and write presentations, reports, and training materials for use in the region, and across different time zones.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
• Master’s degree in environmental law, environmental policy or related field preferred.
• 7 Years of demonstrable relevant working experience in the public sector or in a regulatory affairs function for a profit or non-profit organization
• Understanding of national climate policies, Nationally Determined Contributions, and interlinkages with forest and land use sector strategies in the region.
• Familiarity with policy, legal, and institutional frameworks in areas relevant to private REDD+ project implementation, including forest and land licensing and land titling.
• Ability to accurately interpret legal documents and clearly convey their contents.
• Ability to maintain good communications and reports across two teams, one international and one national.
• Ability to work within timeframe of standard policies and procedures.
• Excellent ability to multi-task and prioritize in a busy, fast-growth environment.
• Team player with an ability and willingness to build new knowledge and share it across teams and countries.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Power Point is essential.

Job Purpose:
• The Research and Advocacy Manager will be responsible for coordinating research in policies advancing interests of Engineers and Engineering as captured in IEK Constitution, Strategic plan and strategic direction given by the council from time to time. The office holder will have a coordinating role in IEK policy and advocacy matters in public and private sector. The role will involve identifying policy areas, enlisting relevant partnerships and developing instruments of engagement with National, County governments and other industry players including Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs). The holder will also be expected to play a coordinating role in managing the different stakeholders both locally and abroad including international bodies.
• We are looking for a versatile, flexible, agile and adaptable individual who will be required to work after hours as the IEK activities may demand

Key Responsibilities
• The manager will be in charge of the policy, research and advocacy relating to engineering profession and practice.
• Pursue advocacy on public policy and legislation responsive to the society in matters related to infrastructure, Manufacturing, Telecommunication and General Engineering practice.
• Assist the council to advise and provide technical support to government, parliament and the different public forums in policy, legislation and constitutional implementation on matters affecting the Engineering profession.
• Review legislation to align engineering practice to global best practices.
• Coordinate publication of engineering best practices, standards, guidelines, and manuals, IEK journals, magazines
• Facilitate dialogue forums to develop common positions on key policy advocacy issues
• Constantly review existing policy issues and regulatory environment and highlight areas of concern
• Take lead in the design of appropriate actions to address any areas of concern including the development of policy position papers to guide IEKs policy advocacy agenda.
• Providing regular policy briefs drawn from both draft and concluded policy and legislative actions.
• In consultation with relevant stakeholders, prepare and submit the IEK’s position on emerging issues in the sector.
• Liaising with relevant government agencies, departments and partners to follow through on recommended interventions.
• Keeping stakeholders informed on the organization’s policy interventions.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, Statistics, Law or equivalent
• Postgraduate degree in Business Administration, Policy Development or Economics or Equivalent
• Over 10 years’ experience in Engineering advocacy policy engagement, research, and analysis with demonstrable of practical policy for 5 of these.
• Must have EBK practicing license or equivalent from other regulators
• Must have a proven track record of resources, partnerships, management of internal and external relations.

• Experience in legal and policy analysis and knowledge of the country’s laws and policies as they relate to the engineering profession

Role Profile:
The role is within the Finance Department. The purpose and context of the role is: Develop, maintain and review policies for Compliance Program’s general operation to prevent improper, unethical and illegal conduct; Collaborate with departments to direct compliance for investigation and resolution and consult with retained attorney to resolve complex legal compliance issues; Handle rules, regulations and policy violation and review and suggest investigative procedures initiation; Develop and monitor violation-handling system including whistle blower system; and develop and review Standards of Conduct to guarantee continuing currency and guide management and employees.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead complex legal projects that span legal, business, and functional boundaries (e.g., cross geographies, subject matter areas, jurisdictions, organizations and business models).
• Develop and implement self-assessments, identify gaps and create corrective action plans that will support compliance across Kyosk group.
• Provide counsel to staff in all departments on a variety of complex issues. Identify, research, and analyze legal issues that affect the Organization and its activities at the local, and international levels associated with the Organization’s activities, ongoing operations, and strategic initiatives, including but not limited to, revenue diversification, and jurisdictional and programmatic expansion. Develop and implement staff-friendly plans, systems and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications & Desired Skills:
• Graduate of Law or equivalent.
