Role Purpose
Talent Grid Africa, on behalf of its client in the global shipping industry, is recruiting a Business Intelligence Analyst to support commercial performance and revenue optimization within the region.
The Business Intelligence Analyst will focus on sales steering, financial performance analysis, allocation optimization, and data-driven commercial decision making.
The successful candidate will combine strong finance, analytics, and commercial operations expertise to ensure optimal utilization of voyage capacity, customer allocations, and equipment planning.
The Business Intelligence Analyst will play a critical role in revenue management, forecasting accuracy, CRM opportunity steering, and market intelligence analysis, helping maximize profitability and sustainable growth while aligning with the company’s global commercial governance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage voyage space requests and waiting list shipments to maximize vessel utilization.
- Monitor and optimize voyage allocation utilization and cargo mix.
- Oversee customer and bundled allocation usage to maximize revenue yield.
- Provide guidance on shipment handling in overbooking situations.
- Coordinate and request Capacity Authorization (CA) when required.
- Plan and align annual budget volumes and revenue targets with commercial strategy
- Develop weekly volume forecasts and conduct monthly volume trend analysis.
- Analyze lost business and identify recovery opportunities.
- Conduct financial and operational analysis on ancillary charges (DOC fees, cancellation fees, re-booking fees).
- Perform PRIA report clean-up (Negative CL2 and ICL adjustments).
- Conduct Demurrage & Detention (D&D) analysis and evaluate freetime requests for management approval.
- Track customer performance and identify growth potential.
- Liaise with Trade Management on routing optimization, pricing opportunities, and market trends.
- Optimize market segmentation (Long-Term vs Short-Term business).
- Collect and analyze market intelligence including competitor services and product developments.
- Evaluate routing proposals and recommend improvements.
- Prepare structured reports on commercial performance and operational alignment.
- Forecast equipment requirements to support supply-demand balance.
- Participate in APM calls and commercial steering meetings.
- Conduct weekly alignment meetings with Area Sales teams.
- Analyze CRM opportunities and guide Sales Management on priority pursuits.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Logistics, Supply Chain, or Maritime Studies.
- 5+ years of experience in shipping line commercial operations, revenue management, sales steering, or capacity planning.
- Strong background in financial analysis, data analysis, and commercial performance reporting.
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills (pivot tables, financial modeling, forecasting).
- Experience working with CRM systems, revenue reporting tools, or shipping line systems (e.g., FIS, COMPASS or similar).
- Strong understanding of trade lanes, allocation control, and revenue optimization in container shipping.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
