The Cleaner plays a vital role in ensuring a clean, safe, and hygienic environment across the German School Nairobi. Working under the direction of the Housekeeping Supervisor, the Cleaner will deliver high international standards of hygiene and sanitation in all indoor and outdoor school areas, including classrooms, offices, washrooms, corridors, sports facilities, and event spaces. The ideal candidate is diligent, proactive, and committed to contributing to a healthy learning environment for our students and employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Toilet and Cloakroom Areas (Hourly Maintenance Required)
  • Clean lavatory bowls, urinals, sinks, taps, mirrors, tiles, and all fixtures.
  • Refill toilet paper, hand soap, paper towels, and air fresheners as and when required.
  • Disinfect surfaces and mop floors with approved detergents.
  • Empty waste bins and sign the hourly hygiene checklist.
  • Immediately report any plumbing, electrical, or structural issues to the Housekeeping
  • Supervisor.
  • Classrooms, Offices and Common Spaces
  • Sweep, mop, and disinfect floors daily.
  • Damp-wipe desks, chairs, skirting, pipes, and windowsills.
  • Clean doors, handles, glass panels, and remove visible stains and marks.
  • Empty and sanitize bins regularly.
  • Remove cobwebs, sanitize shared spaces, and ensure thorough cleaning under all movable furniture.
  • Clean window blinds every six months and Iron and wash curtains every six months.
  • Submit found items to reception or the designated lost & found points.
  • Special Facilities – Computer Laboratory, Science Laboratories, Music and Art Room, Sports
  • Hall, and Mirror Room
  • Clean IT and electronic equipment safely using approved materials.
  • Unblock art sinks and clean paint areas thoroughly.
  • Use clean, well-rinsed mops for wooden floors in sports and mirror rooms.
  • Maintain cleanliness in changing rooms and shower areas, ensuring that curtains and
  • partitions are always sanitized and in place.
  • Organize and manage the lost & found area professionally.
  • Monthly Deep Cleaning Duties (All School Areas)
  • Perform intensive, scheduled deep cleaning of all school areas including:
  • Carpet shampooing and floor scrubbing.
  • High dusting of ceiling corners, fans, light fixtures, and vents.
  • Detailed sanitation of desks, chairs, lockers, and shared equipment.
  • Full washroom deep disinfection and descaling.
  • Window cleaning (inside and outside where accessible).
  • Participate in school-wide hygiene and pre-term sanitation activities.

Qualifications, skills and expectations:

  • Certificate in Housekeeping from a reputable institution.
  • Previous professional cleaning experience, preferably in a school or large facility.
  • Attention to detail, time management, and commitment to cleanliness.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
  • Flexibility to adjust working hours when necessary.
  • Maintain a consistent cleaning schedule, with flexibility to support school events and weekend functions.
  • Uphold cleaning protocols as provided by the Housekeeping supervisor and in line with public health requirements.
  • Use appropriate protective wear and signage during cleaning for safety.
  • Demonstrate high levels of reliability, trustworthiness, and personal hygiene
