JOB PURPOSE
The Credit Analyst will be responsible for independently assessing credit risk and serving as a proactive risk assessor in line with the SACCO’s credit policy, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements for all loan applications prior to processing and approval.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB
- Independently assess credit risk and evaluate the financial performance of borrowers through income analysis, cash flows, debt obligations, guarantor strength, and collateral adequacy.
- Apply quantitative and qualitative risk factors to determine appropriate risk ratings for loan applications and portfolios.
- Prepare clear and comprehensive credit appraisal and risk review reports with recommendations for approval, decline, restructuring, or deferment.
- Act as a mandatory independent risk gate for all loan applications prior to approval and processing.
- Identify early warning indicators, policy breaches, concentration risks, and emerging credit risks, and recommend appropriate mitigants.
- Escalate policy exceptions, high-risk exposures, restructures, repeat top-ups, and large facilities to the appropriate approval authority
- Conduct independent risk reviews and provide expert feedback during the structuring of credit facilities.
- Present credit risk opinions, residual risks, and recommendations to the management to support informed decision-making.
- Monitor and report on credit limits, borrower exposures, sector concentrations, and portfolio performance trends.
- Contribute to periodic credit risk and portfolio reports through timely and accurate data submission.
- Contribute to the development and review of credit risk management policies, procedures, and underwriting standards.
- Ensure accurate capture and maintenance of credit data within the core banking and credit management systems.
- Train new loan processing assistants to equip them with knowledge and skills to effectively perform their roles.
- Any other duty that may be assigned by the Management from time to time
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum level of academic qualifications required for the role:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Successful candidates will be required to meet the requirements of Chapter 6 of the constitution of Kenya by obtaining the necessary documentation.
Minimum level of professional qualification required for the role:
- Must have a Professional certification in CCP (Certified Credit professional)
- A professional qualification in risk related certifications/CPA K/ACCA
- A registered member of ICPAK or relevant professional body
Minimum number of years of experience required
- Experience Credit Analysis in regulated financial institutions.
- At least 3 years’ experience in credit management
