Position Summary

We are currently looking for a Credit Risk Advisory professional to take up a leadership role in leading and growing our Credit Risk and Capital Advisory portfolio across East Africa. The successful candidate will lead complex credit risk, financial risk management and regulatory transformation engagements, build trusted client relationships, and drive business development across the financial services sector.

The role will involve working closely with senior client stakeholders, regulators, and multi-disciplinary teams to deliver risk management, capital management, credit analytics, and regulatory advisory solutions for banks, financial institutions, fintechs, digital lenders and other financial services organizations across Kenya and the wider East African region, including Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Ethiopia.

The successful candidate will play a leadership role in strengthening KPMG's market presence in credit risk advisory, developing innovative client solutions, and mentoring high-performing teams while delivering exceptional client service.

Key roles and responsibilities

Client delivery & technical leadership

  • Lead the delivery of complex credit risk, capital management and regulatory advisory engagements.
  • Advise clients on credit risk frameworks, governance, risk appetite, portfolio management and credit strategy.
  • Support financial institutions in areas such as Basel implementation, ICAAP, stress testing, recovery planning and capital management.
  • Lead IFRS 9, credit modelling, model validation and risk analytics engagements.
  • Provide practical and commercially relevant solutions to help clients address evolving regulatory and risk management challenges.
  • Maintain high technical quality standards across all engagements.

Risk Transformation & Innovation

  • Support clients in modernizing their credit risk management capabilities through data, analytics and technology-enabled solutions.
  • Advise on credit risk operating models, credit risk reporting, risk data management and governance frameworks.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative approaches to risk management, credit analytics and regulatory compliance.

Relationship management & business development

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior executives and key stakeholders across the financial services sector.
  • Identify business opportunities and contribute to proposals, pursuits and client presentations.
  • Develop market-leading solutions aligned to client needs and emerging industry trends.
  • Represent KPMG in client meetings, industry forums and thought leadership initiatives.

Data, Technology and Innovation

  • Apply data analytics and technology-enabled approaches to identify fraud, financial crime, compliance and control anomalies.
  • Work with forensic technology, data analytics and digital teams to support transaction testing, exception analysis, dashboards and risk profiling solutions.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative methodologies, tools, templates and approaches supporting financial crime and forensic engagements.

People leadership & practice management

  • Coach, mentor and develop team members across engagements.
  • Lead engagement planning, budgeting and resource management activities.
  • Promote collaboration across service lines and KPMG member firms.
  • Drive quality, profitability and performance across the portfolio.

Academic/ Professional qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Banking, Actuarial Science, Risk Management or a related field.
  • Relevant professional qualifications such as FRM, CFA, PRM, CPA, ACCA or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 9 years experience working in consulting, banking, financial services, regulatory institutions or professional services environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams and managing complex client engagements.
