JOB PURPOSE:
- Responsible for overseeing all haulage operations in line with contractual obligations with a key client, ensuring optimal utilization of trucks, machinery, equipment, and personnel. Strict adherence to the client’s operational standards and requirements is essential.
- Develop, lead, and manage a disciplined, experienced, and well-trained team, including maintenance staff, plant operators, haulage drivers, and operations support personnel.
- Ensure daily fleet deployment achieves maximum trip efficiency per truck and meets daily haulage targets. Monitor and track key performance indicators such as kilometers covered, fuel consumption (litres per km), tyre usage, and equipment downtime. Establish and implement a robust planned preventative maintenance program for all plant, trucks, and equipment.
- Location: Mombasa and Kilifi County
Task Process
- Planning and managing day to day operations, breaking, loading, hauling, stock piling, feeding the crushers and tracking data to ensure all KPIs and targets are achieved on a daily basis. Continuously updating management.
- Team collaboration
- Work closely with the General Manager, Operations Officers, Maintenance Foremen, Finance Manager, Procurement Manager, HR Manager, Safety Manager to ensure smooth, efficient and profitable operation
The Operations Manager will be responsible for:
- Aspects of mining activities such as rock breaking, weighing, sorting, loading and offloading of trucks.
- Managing daily haulage operations that include shift changeovers, driver management, fueling, etc, in line with contractual requirements.
- Managing truck utilisation, fuel efficiency, maintenance, and personnel performance.
- Ensuring strict compliance with operational KPIs such as fuel consumption per km, tyre life, and daily haulage tonnage (target 3,500 tons/day).
- Coordinate closely with workshop and operations teams to maintain high equipment uptime.
- Implement and monitor the Planned Preventive Maintenance Programs and safety standards for the mining equipment and trucks.
- Training, developing and motivating a competent workforce that adheres to HSE protocols, business and employee code of conduct
Requirements
Educational Qualification and Training, Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or engineering fields with bias to mining, haulage equipment and operations.
- Training and certification in supply chain management
- Business Diploma or above qualification is an added advantage
Required knowledge and Experience
- Not less than 5 years’ experience working in mining operations. Limestone extraction is an added advantage.
- Good knowledge and experience of mining operations and equipment
- Experience in creating and implementing fleet policies from acquisition to replacement cycle and good coordination of maintenance operations
- High level of problem-solving expertise
- Good communication skills
