In 2008, they launched RefuSHE, then Heshima Kenya, in that vision. Anne & Talyn founded RefuSHE as an innovative solution within the global refugee crisis - an organization built on the principle that every young woman deserves opportunity.

Purpose of the role

The MEAL Assistant helps RefuSHE collect accurate, timely data on its programs for refugee girls and young women, so the organisation can track results, report to donors and keep improving its work. The role supports data collection, data entry, record-keeping and the feedback and complaints process, under the guidance of the MEAL Coordinator.

Key responsibilities

  • Collect data on program activities, such as registration, attendance and participation, using paper forms and mobile data collection tools (such as KoboToolbox or ODK).
  • Enter, clean and update data in the program database accurately and on time.
  • Check data for errors, missing information and duplicates, and correct them with program staff.
  • Make sure data is broken down by gender, age, nationality, disability and location.
  • Help prepare and test data collection tools, and train program staff and volunteers on how to use them.
  • Support baseline, midline and endline surveys, focus group discussions and interviews, including taking notes and translating where needed.
  • Help with spot checks and field monitoring visits, and record findings.
  • Prepare simple data summaries, tables and charts for the MEAL Officer.
  • Gather case studies, success stories and photos (with consent) for reports and communications.
  • Support the feedback and complaints mechanism: log feedback, pass it to the right staff and help track responses.
  • Refer any safeguarding concern found during data collection to the Safeguarding Officer straight away.
  • File and store paper and digital records securely, following data protection and confidentiality rules.
  • Help organise learning and reflection sessions, and take notes.
  • Carry out other related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • A diploma or degree in Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Social Sciences, Development Studies or a related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience in data collection, data entry or monitoring and evaluation, ideally in an NGO setting. Recent graduates with relevant internship experience may also be considered.
  • Good Excel skills, including data cleaning and simple tables and charts.
  • Experience with mobile data collection tools (KoboToolbox or ODK) is an advantage.
  • Basic understanding of surveys, interviews and focus group discussions.
  • Knowledge of data protection principles and the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019.
  • Strong attention to detail and good record-keeping.
  • Good communication skills and respectful when working with refugee communities.

  • Willing to travel to field sites.
  • Committed to gender equality, inclusion and safeguarding.
