Oncology Nurse

  • Assessing, planning, and implementation of nursing care to cancer patients according to the nursing process framework.
  • Participating in screening activities to assist in early diagnosis of cancer.
  • Offering counselling and psychological care to help patients navigate through the treatment journey.
  • Administering prescribed chemotherapy according to set-out policies and existing guidelines.
  • Providing information on potential side effects of chemotherapy before administration to ensure that the patient is prepared for the treatment.
  • Monitoring the progress of patients on chemotherapy and identifying any side effects.
  • Ensuring smooth running of the oncology unit by collaborating with the finance team to facilitate insurance approvals before management.
  • Championing proper handling of cytotoxic chemotherapeutic drugs and proper waste segregation.
  • Offering palliative and hospice services to improve the quality of life of patients and their relatives.
  • Maintaining health records of cancer patients.
  • Providing preventive and promotive health education to cancer patients and relatives.
  • Participating in MDT meetings to contribute to management plans for cancer patients.
  • Participating in continued professional development by self-study.
  • Writing daily, weekly, and monthly reports about the cancer unit.
  • Participating in the promotion and growth of oncology services through community outreach, patient education, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Nursing or BSc. Nursing.
  • Higher National Diploma in Oncology Nursing.
  • Registered by the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
  • Valid Professional Practice License.
  • Minimum of 2 years working experience in a busy oncology centre.
  • Trained in BLS/ACLS.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages for report writing and presentation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with others and develop strong relationships.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Kiswahill.
