OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
The Nurse will be responsible for delivering patient-centred care within the cancer care project, ensuring patients receive holistic support throughout their diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Providing nursing care, education, and advocacy for cancer patients while working closely with the multidisciplinary care team to manage and coordinate treatment plans.
- Assess and monitor the physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs of cancer patients, offering support and education as necessary.
- Screen patients for Cervical (HPV) and Breast cancer following the latest evidence-based guidelines.
- Provide vaccination against human papilloma virus (HPV) to populations within the western Kenya region.
- Administer treatments, manage side effects, and educate patients and families about their diagnosis, treatment options, and expected outcomes.
- Coordinate and schedule follow-up care, screenings, and referrals to other healthcare professionals as part of a comprehensive care plan
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to create and implement individualized care plans
- Contribute to the planning and execution of cancer care programs and initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes and service delivery.
- Monitor the effectiveness of cancer care programs, collect data, and provide feedback for continuous quality improvement
- Assist with the development of patient education materials, support groups, and outreach efforts to raise awareness about cancer care services
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives in the unit and in other departments.
- Participates actively in CNE/CME/Audits
- Exercises economic use of suppliers and equipment
- Assumes shift leading, plans, organizes and allocates duties to staff available, noting attendance and punctuality
- Monitors staff and client satisfaction with services in assigned unit and takes appropriate action to close gaps.
The requirements
- KRCHN/KRN
- Bsc. Nursing will be an added advantage
- Kenya Registered Oncology Nurse (Added advantage)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- A minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience after completing basic nursing education.
- Experience in performing breast and cervical cancer screenings, including patient education, sample collection, and follow-up care.
- Member of National Nurses Association of Kenya or other professional body
