The Kenya organisation was established in 1965, The Kenya Red Cross supports and runs a number of projects whilst raising awareness to the Kenyan public about the current issues or problems which may affect them.

Job Purpose/Objective

The Reproductive health services coordinator is directly responsible for SRH technical leadership on assessments, planning, sector coordination with other departments and with MOH as well as other SRH actors, monitoring and continuous review of RH programs with a view of improving sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services for displaced populations, ensuring that refugees, asylum seekers and other affected communities have access to safe, quality, and culturally appropriate healthcare. And is the overall in charge of the maternal, neonatal and child health services both at facility and community level programs. He / She will ensure the smooth running of Reproductive health department including SGBV, PMTCT and strong linkage to protection and safe referral pathways in the operation.

Responsibilities or duties

Key responsibilities.

  • Coordinate the implementation of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) including SGBV programs in refugee camps and host communities.
  • Ensure the delivery of the Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) for Sexual and Reproductive Health during emergencies (during influx or mass displacements and in the transit/reception centre).
  • Collaborate with government health authorities, UN agencies, NGOs, and community-based organizations/refugee led organizations (RLOs) to strengthen reproductive health and rights service delivery.
  • Participate in health cluster (SRG/GBV TWGs etc) and coordination meetings and represent reproductive health & rights priorities.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to promote reproductive health education with a focus on community based SRHR, SGBV and adolescent SRH
  • Working with health care providers and other stakeholders to ensure quality care for patients including addressing the 3 delays in service access.
  • Providing information and education on reproductive health topics such as family planning, PMTCT, sexually transmitted diseases, and prenatal care
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of reproductive health programs
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies affecting reproductive health
  • Advocating for increased access to reproductive health services, particularly for underserved populations
  • Undertaking staff training needs assessment and coordinate linkage for staff and volunteers training on reproductive health & rights topics
  • Collaborating with other departments and organizations to promote integrated services
  • Participating in the development of grant proposals and fundraising initiatives including cost reduction to support reproductive health programs
  • The coordinator will also support building partnerships, stakeholder management, advocacy for protection, gender and inclusion mainstreaming and policy reviews that promote SRHR, and strengthening the capacity of national partners through training and knowledge sharing
  • Ensure survivor-centered approaches in SGBV management.
  • The coordinator will oversee monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the impact of SRH programs and ensure compliance with donor requirements.
  • Strengthen referral pathways for emergency obstetric and newborn care.
  • Conduct community awareness campaigns including community engagement on fistula and other obstetric complications, breast & cervical cancer screening and referral/linkage for comprehensive care and surgical interventions (reconstructive surgery). Promote health-seeking behavior and address cultural barriers to RH care.
  • Monitor the availability of essential medicines, equipment, and reproductive health commodities.
  • Monitor the availability of essential medicines, equipment, and reproductive health commodities to ensure consistent supply.
  • Responsible for SRHR performance indicators (indicators related to maternal health, family planning, adolescent health and GBV services).

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Minimum Qualifications

Academic Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Medicine, Nursing, or Midwifery is highly preferred.

Advanced Degree/master’s degree in Public Health (MPH), Global Health, Epidemiology, or other related social Sciences is an added advantage.

Experience needed

Experience

  • A minimum of 4 years experience in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) programming in displacement or crisis contexts. Lived experience in refugee operations is preferred.
  • Practical experience in design and implementation integrated multi-year SRHR projects, SGBV programming (GBV prevention and advocacy, clinical management and safe referral, survivor centred approaches).
  • Training and work experience in PGI programs with demonstrated ability to navigate sensitive religious, cultural, and political dynamics surrounding family planning and reproductive health inside the diverse refugee communities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and coordination capacity for successful representation of KRCSS and lead SRHR sub-sector working groups/taskforces especially the Health, Protection and Gender-Based Violence sub-clusters.
