- The S.H.E & Fumigation Officer will provide critical leadership across all aspects of the company's safety, health, environment, and fumigation operations in the East Africa region. This role involves developing and implementing safety policies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and leading comprehensive training programs. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader responsible for fostering a strong safety culture and supporting operational excellence. The position also includes supervisory responsibilities and requires collaboration with various internal departments.
key Responsibilities
- Health, Safety & Environment (S.H.E):
- Develop, implement, and continuously review the company's overarching Health and Safety Policy.
- Monitor and ensure full compliance with national Health and Safety legislation and internal
- company standards.
- Establish and drive a program of continuous improvement in SHE management, which
- includes conducting regular audits and risk assessments.
- Lead the regional Sta Health & Safety Committee and establish sub-committees as needed.
- Oversee the company's environmental program, ensuring sustainable practices and the safe
- disposal of hazardous substances.
- Fumigation Management
- Serve as the company’s primary technical expert for all fumigation activities within the region.
- Ensure all fumigation operations comply with internal policies, manufacturer requirements, and national regulations
- Develop, implement, and audit fumigation protocols to minimize risk and ensure service Quality.
- Ensure all fumigation technicians are appropriately licensed, trained, and equipped.
- Represent the company in relevant industry forums and on matters related to fumigation legislation.
- Training and Development
- Conduct comprehensive induction for all new employees on Safety, Health, Environment, Fumigation protocols and safe driving practices.
- Develop and deliver monthly training on Safety and the company's operational excellence framework (focusing on Sustainability, Care, Ownership, Results, and Expertise) for all departments.
- Lead training segments during quarterly regional meetings.
- Organize and conduct specialized, need-based safety training for service and technical teams.
- Coordinate with external institutions to arrange for specialized employee training, including First Aid, defensive driving, and re safety. 4. Operational & Team Management:
- Work closely with the Fleet Administrator to develop and implement fleet management policies, with a strong focus on the safe use of vehicles and driver safety.
- Oversee the driver onboarding process, ensuring all new drivers are qualified and properly trained.
- Collaborate with the Procurement Officer to ensure all employees are equipped with the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), uniforms, and other necessary equipment.
- Provide direct supervision, guidance, and performance management for the office cleaning team.
Requirements
- University Degree or Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science or a related field will be an added advantage.
- At least 5 years of relevant industry experience in a supervisory capacity.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and training skills (oral and written).
- In-depth knowledge of local Environmental, Health, and Safety (E.H.S) laws and regulations.
- Practical knowledge and skills in First Aid, fire and defensive driving.
- Proven experience in conducting E.H.S audits.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and creativity skills.
- Demonstrable ability and experience in training and mentoring staff.
- A solid understanding of pest control and fumigation principles.
- Working knowledge of fleet safety and management principles.
