We are seeking motivated and knowledgeable individuals to join our agrovet shop team. The ideal candidates will manage counter sales and provide essential agronomic and basic veterinary support to our walk-in customers. This role requires a blend of sales acumen, strong communication skills, and a solid understanding of agricultural practices and animal health.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Service & Sales:

  • Welcome and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Understand customer needs and recommend appropriate products and solutions.
  • Provide accurate information on product features, benefits, and application methods for agricultural inputs (e.g., seeds, fertilizers, pesticides) and basic veterinary supplies.
  • Promote and cross-sell products to maximize sales.
  • Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and feedback efficiently, escalating complex issues as necessary.
  • Process sales transactions accurately using the point-of-sale (POS) system.
  • Manage cash, mobile money, and other payment methods securely.
  • Assist with inventory management, including restocking shelves and maintaining organized product displays.

Agronomic & Veterinary Support:

  • Offer basic agronomic advice on crop selection, soil health, pest and disease management, and best farming practices relevant to the local context.
  • Guide customers on the appropriate use of fertilizers, pesticides, and other agrochemicals, emphasizing safety precautions and environmental considerations.
  • Provide basic veterinary advice on common livestock ailments, animal nutrition, and hygiene practices.
  • Recommend suitable over-the-counter veterinary products, explaining their usage and dosage.
  • Recognize when to refer customers to qualified veterinarians for more complex animal health issues.
  • Stay updated on the latest agricultural trends, technologies, and best practices through continuous learning.

Operational Compliance:

  • Adhere to established sales procedures and protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of sales transactions and customer interactions.
  • Ensure a clean, organized, and safe working environment within the shop.
  • Comply with all relevant regulations and guidelines related to the sale of agricultural and veterinary products.
  • Participate in stock takes and inventory audits as required.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Certificate, Diploma, or Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Animal Health, or a related field.
  • For veterinary-focused candidates, a valid Veterinary Medicine Directorate (VMD) license is required.
  • Proven experience in sales within an agricultural or veterinary retail setting.
  • Strong knowledge of agricultural inputs and their application.
  • Basic understanding of common livestock diseases, animal nutrition, and over-the-counter veterinary products.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to explain technical information clearly to a diverse customer base.
  • Strong numerical and cash handling skills.
  • Proficiency in using a point-of-sale (POS) system and basic computer applications.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • A genuine interest in agriculture and a passion for helping customers succeed
