Accident & Emergency Unit In charge

Main Duties

  • Monitor standards of nursing care and other support services to ensure delivery of quality patient care
  • Develop and implement unit budget and ensure operations are within the budget
  • Address issues and concerns within the section to ensure both internal and external customer satisfaction
  • Submit monthly activity reports to the management
  • Update staff on health and safety requirements to ensure a safe environment and compliance with the statutory requirements
  • Liaise with various experts, consultants and section heads to achieve departmental and institutional goals
  • Ensure adequate supply and proper management of staff, consumables and assets to maximize efficiency and cost controls
  • Ensure effective infection control measures
  • In liaison with the security Manager ensuring adequate security at the premises throughout and reporting any incidents
  • Ensure patients nursing needs be they physical, psychological, mental and spiritual are attended to in a holistic manner
  • To supervise nursing care and other support services to assure delivery of quality care
  • Set work schedules for all staff in the unit
  • Foster team work and discipline among the staff
  • Address issues and concerns within the section to ensure both internal and external customers satisfaction
  • Ensure proper induction of new staff and nursing students for smooth adoption and correct practice of nursing care

Required Qualifications for the Position

  • Diploma (KRCHN/KRN) / Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BScN)
  • A higher National Diploma in Accident & Emergency Nursing or Critical care Nursing specialization
  • BLS/ACLS certified
  • ATCN certification would be an added advantage
  • A&E or Critical Care Nursing experience of 5 years and above with at least 2 years managing a busy A&E or Critical care unit

Accident And Emergency Coordinator

Position Summary

Reporting to Director Medical Services. The job holder will attend to patients who are presented to the A & E Department, make important decisions regarding their immediate management and take general responsibility for the day to day running of the A & E Department

Main Duties

  • Supervision of all Medical Officers and Senior Medical Officers in the management, stabilization and treatment of all patients at the Accident and Emergency department
  • Overall management of Medical Officers Rota
  • Coordinating medical training including Continuous Medical Education programs for A&E Clinical Staff
  • Draws up and reviews policies and procedures to govern Accident and Emergency department and circulates them for approval
  • Attends management meetings and makes reports on issues needing input from other departmental heads
  • Ensuring that Hospital policies and administrative regulations are known and understood by Accident and Emergency staff
  • Carries out performance appraisal for department staff twice a year
  • Ensures the competence and efficiency of staff in the department in terms of knowledge, skills and attitude
  • In liaison with Human Resources Department, ensures that staffing requirements are fully met and staff welfare, training and development is well managed
  • Creates a work environment that fosters high degree of personal integrity, team spirit and outstanding work standards
  • Makes follow up on complaints received from patients in the department
  • Providing clinical support during emergencies including resuscitation, admission, discharge or referral to the appropriate consultants and units
  • Managing and maintaining the major disaster plan at Accident and Emergency Department
  • Participating in developing various clinical protocols
  • Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time

Required Qualifications for the Position

  • MBChB
  • Registered with the Kenya Medical practitioners and Dentist Board
  • Post graduate training in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine or Family Medicine
  • 8 years’ work experience, 3 of which should have been in a busy emergency setting
  • A proven record of leading multi-disciplinary teams
  • ACLS, ATLS or EPLS training
  • Strong leadership and administrative skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to make quick and solid decisions
  • Strong mentoring and teaching skills

ICU Coordinator

Main Duties

  • Co-ordinates and directs the daily patient care operations of the Critical Care Unit
  • Analyses workloads and skill requirements to meet patient care needs
  • Assesses staff competencies and makes patient care assignments
  • Delegates appropriate tasks to appropriate personnel, consistent with legal and professional guidelines and departmental standards
  • Maintains clear communications with the Clinical Nurse Manager regarding unit needs and/or incidents
  • Serves as a resource person on the unit
  • Assists with patient care as needed
  • Identifies appropriate internal controls for department; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance
  • Providing second on call coverage, running of general surgery clinics with both preoperative and post-op care plans
  • Co-ordination of morbidity/mortality meetings and Multi - Disciplinary Meetings
  • Ensures the unit is well equipped with well-functioning equipment
  • Prepares the budget and ensures procurement of capital items to specifications and adequate supplies for the unit at all times
  • Carries out performance appraisal for department staff
  • Ensures the competence and efficiency of staff in terms of knowledge, skills and attitude
  • In liaison with HR department, manage staff welfare, training and development
  • Creates a work environment that fosters high degree of personal integrity, team spirit and outstanding performance standards
  • Reports on clinical issues to the Director Medical Services as required
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the department and provide reports as required

Required Qualifications for the Position

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MB ChB)
  • Minimum 5 years as a Senior Medical Officer
  • Post graduate training in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine
  • Minimum two years ICU /Critical Care Experience
  • Ability to train & develop staff
  • Supervisory experience
  • Health Management Systems training is desirable
  • Registered with KMPDC with a valid practicing license
