Background
The Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) is a German non-profit organisation promoting democratic governance, the rule of law, and sustainable development. We work with partners globally to deliver publicly funded projects, including those supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Job Overview
We’re looking for a detail-oriented Accountant who thrives on structure and can bring clarity and order to a dynamic, sometimes fast-paced environment. We welcome applications from early-career professionals who hold relevant qualifications and demonstrate the right mindset, precision, and eagerness to grow. This role is key in ensuring compliance across multiple funding streams with different requirements.
You’ll join a motivated, collaborative team and contribute meaningfully from day one. We offer a competitive base salary alongside a values-driven and supportive work culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Accounting: Maintain accurate records in line with HSF and donor guidelines; verify documents and ensure timely data entry.
- Multi-Donor Compliance: Apply appropriate guidelines to each project and ensure public funding standards are met.
- Audit & Internal Controls: Review partner accounts, resolve discrepancies, and prepare audit-ready files for auditors in Germany.
- Reporting Systems: Use in-house accounting tools for month-end processing and submission to HSF HQ.
- Documentation Management: Systematically scan, label, and upload financial documents into structured digital folders.
- Reconciliations: Complete monthly bank and cash reconciliations and year-end partner advance reconciliations.
- Assets & Logistics: Maintain inventory records and review vehicle fuel usage.
- Fund Management: Monitor income and expenses, respond to HQ queries, and support budget alignment.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Certification: CPA, ACCA, or equivalent (completed or in progress).
- Experience: Prior experience is an advantage, especially in NGOs. However, we’re open to training qualified early-career professionals with strong numeracy, structure, and a learning mindset.
Core Competencies
- Structured Thinking: Brings order to complexity and applies systems in dynamic settings.
- Numerical Confidence: Handles figures and reconciliations with accuracy.
- Compliance Awareness: Understands or is keen to learn public fund and donor accountability standards.
- Clear Documentation: Produces audit-ready records understandable across contexts.
- Self-Reliance: Works independently, meets deadlines, and stays organised.
- Process Orientation: Enjoys working with and improving systems.
Why Join Us?
- Join a respected international organisation with real-world impact.
- Be part of a collaborative and high-performing team.
- Receive a performance-based salary.
- Grow professionally in a culture that values clarity, accountability, and structure.
