JOB DETAILS:
Analyst, Kenya Commercial Forestry Programme - Gatsby Africa

Key Responsibilities
• Support the design and implementation of a construction sector strategy for commercial forestry
• Support the design and implementation of key analysis in the construction sector and lead targeted pieces of analysis.
• Engage with a range of private and public sector actors to understand sector constraints and opportunities, co-create analysis and position findings to influence stakeholders.
• Support synthesizing evidence to identify high-impact intervention opportunities.
• Package evidence into thought leadership to influence stakeholders around opportunities.
• Participate in strategic construction industry forums that provide opportunities to influence stakeholders
• Support intervention design and implementation, including:
• Identification of pioneer firms for collaboration
• Development of budgets and resourcing plan
• Development and use of monitoring and evaluation plans to track progress and implement effective adaptive management

Support intervention leads in the Private Sector Investments team to implement interventions in primary wood processing and the furniture and joinery sector.
• Support intervention leads with the design and implementation of a range of intervention activities in primary wood processing, and furniture and joinery industry, including:
• Contribute to the design of intervention area strategies
• Support furniture and joinery intervention activities which interlink with the construction sector.
• Design and implementation of key pieces of quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis.
• Support the planning and implementation of workshops.

Work with the Deputy Director – Learning and Partnerships to use evidence to support development of new programme partnerships.
• Conduct research and package evidence, combining data from multiple sources, to develop compelling written briefs and thought leadership to support engagement with partners.

Person Specification;
Competencies
• Adept quantitative analytical skills including advanced excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong critical thinking to be able to distil detailed analysis into big picture strategic insights.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English essential. Fluency in Kiswahili is a significant advantage.
• Stakeholder engagement capabilities. Ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and develop relationships, gaining the trust and confidence of the relevant external and internal stakeholders
• Strong understanding of principals of economics, awareness of the driving factors behind business decision-making.

Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications
• A minimum of a undergraduate degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Business, or a similar undergraduate subject
• At least 3-5 years' professional experience in management consultancy, business advisory and/or market development, or similar.
• A proven track record in performing business or sector analysis.
• Experience delivering high-quality and complex quantitative analysis and development of high standard presentations.
• Some experience working with a wide range of stakeholders including Government and Private sector.
• Computer literacy: Microsoft Office – Word, Advanced Excel and PowerPoint.
