Responsibilities or duties
- Undertake regular animal meat inspection;
- Inspect establishment engaged in slaughtering livestock and processing meat;
- Determines that ingredients used in processing and marketing meat and meat products comply with the standards of purity and grading and that products are not adulterated or misbranded;
- Inspect processing areas to ensure sanitary conditions are maintained;
- Issue certificate of transport for meat transportation;
- Provide livestock extension services;
- Participate in disease control, surveillance and reporting; and
- Supervision of livestock sale yards/livestock markets.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Certificate in Animal Health from a recognized institution;
- Must be registered with Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB);
- Certificate in meat inspection from Meat Training Institute (MTI);
- Certificate in Computer Application Skills; and
- Certificate in Artificial Insemination will be an added advantage;
