The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the UN agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The Urban Economy Branch of UN-Habitat has the mandate to promote local capabilities of local governments to develop financial instruments to keep pace with the demands of rapid urbanization. The Urban Economy Branch has the mandate to promote plans and provide support for more efficient, socially inclusive, better integrated and connected cities that foster sustainable urban development.

Associate Programme Management Officer, Human Settlements, P2

Responsibilities

  • Carries out basic research on selected aspects of programmes, operations and other activities, related to innovation, digitalization and smart cities, including collecting, analyzing and presenting statistical data and other information gathered from diverse sources.
  • Provides substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation functions, including the review and analysis of emerging development issues and trends in innovation, digitalization and smart cities..
  • Assists in performing consulting assignments, in collaboration with the client, by planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change.
  • Contributes to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications that relate to innovation, digitalization and smart cities.
  • Provides administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying and proposed participants, preparation of background documents and presentations, handling logistics, etc.
  • Undertakes outreach activities; participates in the development of training workshops, seminars, etc.; participates in and makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics, environment studies, sustainable development or a related field is required.
  • A first-level degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two (2) additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in programme or project management related to smart cities or innovation or related area is required.
  • Experience of planning and/or implementing smart city, innovation and digital transformation strategies and conducting smart cities and digital transformation readiness assessment is required.
  • At least two (2) years of working experience within the United Nations system or a similar international organization is required.
  • One (1 ) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable
