Background
Established in 1863, the ICRC operates worldwide, helping people affected by conflict and armed violence and promoting the laws that protect victims of war. An independent and neutral organization, its mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We are based in Geneva, Switzerland, and employ some 14,500 people in more than 80 countries.
Role Context
The incumbent advises on the most effective audiovisual formats and storytelling approaches to support institutional priorities, campaigns and operations, and provides guidance and capacity-building support to delegations. They are part of the Global Content Hub, based in Nairobi.
Accountabilities & functional responsibilities
- Translates objectives into compelling audiovisual stories tailored to different audiences and platforms (social media, web, campaigns);
- Develops terms of reference, story angles, formats and narrative approaches adapted to short-form, mid-form and platform-specific video content;
- Ensures accuracy, balance, ethical storytelling and respect for humanitarian principles when portraying people and contexts;
- Works with Public Relations Officer and other relevant colleagues to develop compelling and powerful AV news for media use;
- Leads the end-to-end production process: concept development, scripting, planning, shooting, editing, review and delivery;
- Oversees production schedules, budgets and logistics, ensuring efficient use of resources;
- In coordination with the digital team, produces audiovisual content specifically designed for digital platforms (e.g. Instagram, X, YouTube, websites);
- Adapts formats, duration, framing, subtitles and pacing to platform requirements and audience behaviour;
- Ensures audiovisual outputs meet editorial, technical and visual quality standards;
- Ensures consistent application of ICRC new corporate visual identity and tone across all audiovisual products;
- Reviews and validates edits, motion graphics, sound design and final exports;
- Contributes to the weekly Creative Content Meeting by proposing topics and story ideas, and by providing constructive editorial and creative feedback;
- Provides guidance to field teams on audiovisual production approaches, use of the new visual identity, workflows and best practices;
- Delivers coaching, advice and training to ICRC staff on audiovisual production, including through online and in-person workshops and on-the-job support;
- Ensures proper archiving, metadata and reuse of audiovisual assets in line with internal systems and standards.
Qualifications or requirements
Professional experience required
- Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university in communication, audio-visual (AV) production or journalism or any other relevant degree;
- Minimum 5–7 years’ professional work experience as a producer or journalist in news and social media content;
- Proven experience with, and strong knowledge of, video shooting and editing software (Adobe, Final Cut);
- Fluent command of English and of either French or Arabic.
