Langata Hospital is hiring a Billing & Claims (HRIO) Intern to support billing processes, assist with claims management and support hospital administrative operations. The role is based in Nairobi, and experience in health records management is an added advantage.
They are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic individual to join their Billing & Claims Department as a Billing & Claims (HRIO) Intern. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in hospital billing, insurance claims processing, revenue management, and customer service while supporting the efficient operation of the department.
Responsibilities or duties
The intern will be responsible for assisting in the following:
- Prepare and process patient invoices accurately and promptly.
- Verify patient insurance details and eligibility.
- Assist in processing medical insurance claims and follow up on outstanding claims.
- Capture and update patient billing information in the Hospital Information System (HIS).
- Reconcile billing records and identify discrepancies for correction.
- Liaise with insurance companies regarding claim submissions, approvals, and reimbursements.
- Respond to billing and claims inquiries from patients and insurance providers professionally.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient billing records.
- Generate daily, weekly, and monthly billing and claims reports.
- Support revenue collection initiatives and ensure timely claim submissions.
- Ensure compliance with hospital billing procedures, insurance policies, and relevant healthcare regulations.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Applicants must possess:
- A Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following fields:
- Health Records and Information Management (HRIM/HRIO)
- Health Information Management
- Health Records and Information Technology
- Health Systems Management
- Business Administration (Healthcare Option)
- Accounting or Finance (Healthcare experience is an added advantage)
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:
- Basic understanding of medical billing and insurance claims processes.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare documentation.
- Basic knowledge of NHIF/SHIF and private medical insurance billing procedures will be an added advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Familiarity with Hospital Information Systems (HIS) or Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is desirable.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
