Responsibilities or duties
Patient Care & Communication
- Review patient medical records, including history, lab results, and requisition orders.
- Obtain and verify clinical information to ensure exam accuracy.
- Communicate effectively with patients and families to explain procedures, support health outcomes, and enhance patient experience.
- Provide emergency care using basic support protocols until advanced care teams arrive.
- Share critical patient information with physicians and clinical teams, highlighting abnormal findings.
Equipment & Facility Management
- Request maintenance of echocardiography and electrogram machines; ensure optimal working conditions.
- Maintain exam area cleanliness and adequate stock of supplies.
Training & Mentorship
- Train and mentor junior staff in basic echocardiography skills.
Compliance & Ethics
- Safeguard patient and hospital confidential information.
- Display Christ-like character and adhere to Tenwek Hospital moral code and Kenya Clinical Officers’ Council regulations.
- Maintain legal compliance in clinical practice.
Clinical & Echocardiography-Specific Skills
- Perform 2D, color flow, and spectral Doppler echocardiography to evaluate cardiac lesions, hemodynamic significance, and pathology.
- Recognize abnormal findings requiring urgent review; inform interpreting physicians of significant changes.
- Respond to emergency exams in ICUs, wards, ER, catheterization labs, and operating rooms.
- Operate ultrasound systems and assist during dobutamine/stress echocardiography; perform contrast studies.
- Prepare written impressions and preliminary reports for adults and pediatric patients.
- Process and submit final data in electronic reporting tools; guide patients for follow-up or treatments.
- Place EKG leads accurately for cardiac monitoring.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Academic Qualifications:
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery (for Clinical Officers) or Diploma in Medical Imaging (Radiology Technologists) or related field from a recognized institution.
Professional Qualifications / Certification:
- Preceptorship / Certificate / Higher Diploma in Cardiac Sonography.
- BLS; ACLS preferred.
Licensing / Memberships:
- Clinical Officers Council of Kenya or Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority (KNRA) for radiologists.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong multi-tasking, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to learn and implement new procedures independently.
- Track record of integrity and accountability.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated, able to work under minimal supervision.
- Commitment to God’s work and improving community health.
Experience needed
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years’ relevant experience in a busy cardiac hospital or related setting.
