PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES

  • Testing of food, non-food, water, soil, sludge, plant tissue and petroleum products in accordance with standard operating procedures, techniques, national, international and industry standards or clients’ guidelines.
  • Ensure that all activities are carried out in compliance with the laboratory’s QA/QC system and more especially ISO/IEC 17025:2017. In addition, ensure GLP compliance where applicable.
  • Observe set turnaround time for all samples and ensure clients’ testing requirement are fully met including application of correct methods/standards.
  • Cost-effective utilization of laboratory inventory to achieve the required TAT and accuracy of results at optimal operational cost.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES

  • Responsible for carrying out predominantly testing applications on food, non-food, water, soil, sludge, plant tissue and petroleum products.
  • Ensure fit for purpose test methods, standards and techniques are always applied consistently.
  • Ensure correct methods, standards and techniques are applied consistently in all analysis carried out including sample preparation.
  • Ensure results and test data generated is accurate, reliable and within acceptable repeatability/reproducibility range.
  • Ensure all quality control charts are maintained and updated regularly using validated QC samples.
  • Ensures analytical raw data of test analysis is reviewed and approved prior to issuance of test reports.
  • Hands on exposure to analytical techniques e.g. Automatic Distillation Units, SOXHLET, UV/Visible, Auto distiller, FAME tester, Flash/Pour point tester, Sulphur in oil analyzer (XRF), Densitometer, wet chemistry and physical analysis.
  • Keeping abreast with all the latest developments of analytical standards related to chemical analysis in order to continuously develop new methods and capabilities for validation and final adoption.
  • Ensure equipment is routinely verified, maintained, and calibrated as well as report any equipment malfunctions.
  • Ensure that technical records, samples and external documents are maintained properly and organized in such manner as to be easy to retrieve and process.
  • Ensure health, safety and environment requirement are adhered to and implemented through frequent lab personnel training, monitoring of the OIMS and Health and Safety systems to determine where improvements can be made, and necessary corrective and preventive actions carried out.
  • Any other duties assigned to you from time to time by Management.

Qualifications

Education

  •  BSc degree in Chemistry, Petrochemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science or equivalent qualification from recognized institution.

Experience

  • At least two (2) years laboratory testing experience preferably in a multi-purpose laboratory
  • Exposed to implementation of ISO/IEC 17025:2017, HSE and accreditation body requirements
  • Hands on exposure to analytical techniques e.g. Automatic Distillation Units, SOXHLET, UV/Visible, Auto distiller, FAME tester, Flash/Pour point tester, Sulphur in oil analyser (XRF), Densitometer, wet chemistry and physical analysis.
  • Have a working knowledge of equipment used in testing of food, non-food, water, soil, sludge, plant tissue and petroleum products.
  • Good knowledge of testing applications in water chemistry, soil chemistry , petrochemistry, proximate and wet chemistry techniques.
