About the African Institute for Capacity Development (AICD)

The African Institute for Capacity Development (AICD) is a regional centre of excellence established by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to enhance the capacity of African countries in the areas of economic policy, financial management, and project management. AICD plays a crucial role in supporting sustainable development and economic growth across the continent.

The Role

AICD is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Chief of Staff to support the Executive Director in strategic planning, operational efficiency, and stakeholder engagement. The Chief of Staff will act as a trusted advisor, facilitating the smooth functioning of the Executive Director’s office and ensuring the effective implementation of AICD’s mandate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Executive Director in developing and executing strategic initiatives.
  • Manage and coordinate the Executive Director’s schedule, communications, and engagements.
  • Prepare briefing materials, reports, and presentations for the Executive Director.
  • Oversee the implementation of key projects and programmes, ensuring alignment with AICD’s strategic objectives.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between departments and with external stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic advice and recommendations to the Executive Director on various matters.
  • Ensure efficient operations of the Executive Director’s office.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in a senior management or advisory role, preferably in an international organization or development institution.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, project management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of French is an added advantage.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment.
