JOB DETAILS:
China liaison consultant.

Organization/Department: International Trade Centre (ITC)/ Office for Asia and The Pacific (OAP)

Duty Station: Kenya, Nairobi (with possible travels)
Reporting: ITC and work closely with the PIGA National Project Coordinator and KenInvest.
Duration: An initial period of SIX (6) Months with Possibility of Extension.
Start date: 01 July 2018 — End date 31 Dec 2018.

Key Responsibilities.

  • Develop the Project's Chinese business and investment network in the country.
  • Establish and support relationships with Chinese companies and institutions owned, operated by and related to Chinese companies in the country.
  • Collect and analyse critical information on practices and issues of Chinese companies and institutions doing investment and business in the country.
  • Advise on project activities‘ content related to Chinese companies and institutions; Provide customized advisory support to selected Chinese companies on the preparation of business and investment meetings with African companies;
  • Ensure efficient communication and outreach of PIGA within and beyond the country to targeted Chinese media, and business, investment and institutional audience;
  • Prepare briefing notes, presentations and other related technical documents, including in Chinese as required, on Chinese presence, business and investments in Kenya, for internal and external use;
  • Support the organization of visits and related activities for Chinese investors and delegations in the country. Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Understanding of the Chinese economic presence in Kenya, key sectors/industries operated in, trends of and drivers to Chinese investment and trade in the country;
  • Knowledge of investment—related issues, challenges to FDI, investment and business partnerships, trade and private sector development in Kenya;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to establish and maintain working relations with Chinese companies, organizations and institutions in Kenya;
  • Good research and analytical skills;
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision with efficiency, competence and integrity and in harmony with people of different cultural and national backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of the Chinese business community in Kenya and institutional business and investment landscape in China;
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision with efficiency, competence and integrity and in harmony with people of different cultural and national backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of the Chinese business community in Kenya and institutional business and investment landscape in China;
  • Experience in China-Africa trade, investment, or technical cooperation.
  • The candidate must be fluent English and Chinese and display excellent translation capabilities from and to English and Chinese.
