Tatu is a project of Rendeavour, Africa’s largest urban land developer with over 30,000 acres of visionary projects in the growth trajectories of large cities in Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Zambia and Democratic Republic of Congo. Rendeavour’s vision goes beyond alleviating what is a self-evident problem - that of stifling urban congestion and a dearth of quality housing and commercial property in Africa. Rather, we aim to help create the infrastructure - the living and working spaces, communities, schools and hospitals - that will help sustain and accelerate Africa’s economic growth, meet the aspirations of Africa’s burgeoning middle classes, and serve as a catalyst for further urban development.

Responsibilities:

Site Operations & Construction Management:

  • Lead and direct all on-site civil and structural construction activities, from earthworks and foundations to superstructure, facade, and finishing works.
  • Oversee all construction to monitor compliance with building and safety regulations.
  • Develop and implement detailed construction execution plans, ensuring that all works are adequately planned, controlled, and executed in line with the project schedule.
  • Manage and coordinate the activities of all civil works subcontractors, ensuring they have the necessary resources and are aligned with project objectives.
  • Act as the lead technical authority on-site for all civil engineering matters, providing expert, practical solutions to complex construction challenges.

Project Controls & Coordination:

  • Assist in the preparation of accurate project programs, clearly indicating the timeframes and activities involved, and monitor progress against the plan, taking corrective action where required.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between the civil/structural works and other disciplines on-site, including MEP, architectural, and infrastructure teams, to ensure seamless integration.
  • Manage and resolve any on-site clashes and coordination issues between different contractors and disciplines to ensure harmonized project delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records of delays and changes that have occurred and assist in preparing claims for variations and time extensions.

Quality, Safety & Compliance:

  • Implement and enforce a rigorous Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) program to ensure all civil works meet the specified standards and designs.
  • Champion a world-class health and safety culture on-site, ensuring strict adherence to all safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ensure all construction activities are in full compliance with Kenyan building codes, local authority regulations, and international best practices.

Leadership & Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate the on-site civil engineering and supervision team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure the provision of an adequate and efficient workforce, aligned with the construction phases and work priorities.
  • Conduct regular progress meetings with contractors and project stakeholders to review performance and address any issues

Requirements

Education: A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an internationally recognized university. A master's degree or Professional Chartership (CEng, P.Eng., or equivalent) is highly advantageous.

Experience: A minimum of 15+ years of progressive, post-graduate experience in civil construction management, with a proven track record on high-rise buildings (20+ stores), mixed-use developments, or other large-scale, complex projects.

Industry Background: Extensive experience working for major international main contractors in a senior site-based role is essential. Experience on giga projects in similar large-scale international developments is a critical advantage.

International Exposure: Demonstrable, hands-on international project experience in challenging environments is essential.

Technical Proficiency: Expert knowledge of all aspects of civil and structural construction, including deep foundations, reinforced concrete structures, formwork systems, and modern construction methodologies. Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Primavera P6) is required.

Project Lifecycle Experience: Must have experience overseeing projects from the pre-construction phase through to completion and handover.
