The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu (AKHK) is an Institution of the Aga Khan Health Service, Kenya, which is an Agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. The Hospital is part of a network of health facilities, which includes Hospitals and Outreach Health Facilities across East Africa. The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu is in an exciting growth phase and has attained acknowledgment of its quality by achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification, ISO 15189:2022 accreditation for laboratory services, Safe Care level 5 accreditation and is at advanced stage of attaining Joint Commission International Accreditation. AKHK has Outreach Health Services at Kisii, Kakamega, Kitale, Bungoma, Kericho, Kibuye-Kisumu, West End- Kisumu, Busia, Homa - Bay, Migori, Bomet, Eldoret, Kimilili, Nyamira, Kabarnet and an upcoming Medical Centre in Lodwar.

CLINICAL OFFICER – AGA KHAN MEDICAL CENTRE, LODWAR

Reporting to the Head of Outreach, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing consultancy and quality clinical judgment to patients. He/she will also be directly responsible for the management and supervision of the operational and administrative functions, activities and projects of the medical center.

Responsibilities or duties

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Taking history, examining, diagnosing, ordering laboratory and imaging investigations.
  • Interpreting laboratory and imaging results.
  • Treating patients’ common ailments at an Outpatient health facility.
  • Implementing Community Healthcare activities in liaison with other health workers.
  • Guiding and counselling patients, clients and staff on health issues
  • Sensitizing patients and clients on preventive and promotive health
  • Carrying out surgical procedures.
  • Organizing health management teams and convening health management committee meetings
  • Assessing, preparing and presenting medico-legal reports and referring patients and clients to appropriate health facilities.
  • Comply with the hospital Confidentiality and privacy policies.
  • Manage the daily operations of the medical centre, ensuring efficient workflow and optimal patient experience.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate clinical and administrative staff within the centre.
  • Implement operational policies and procedures to enhance service delivery.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on the centre’s performance to the Head of Outreach.
  • Address and resolve patient complaints and concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

REQUIREMENTS

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution
  • Current practicing Certificate.
  • Membership registration to the relevant professional body.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Competency in emergency procedures e.g., BLS, ACLS, etc. will be an added advantage
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
