The hospital invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Consultant Ophthalmologist.
Responsibilities or duties
- Provide leadership in the Ophthalmology Department and ensure delivery of comprehensive eye care services including clinical evaluation, diagnosis, and management of eye conditions.
- Perform ophthalmic surgical and non-surgical procedures in accordance with accepted medical standards.
- Conduct outpatient and inpatient consultations and provide follow-up care to patients.
- Promote Continuous Medical Education (CNIE), quality improvement initiatives, and clinical audits within the department.
- Keep up to date with developments and best practices in Ophthalmology.
- Supervise and mentor junior medical staff and support personnel within the eye unit.
- Ensure accurate and timely medical documentation in line with hospital policies and professional standards.
- Uphold ethical medical practice and support the hospital's mission, values, and patient-centered approach to care.
- Participate in community outreach programs, eye camps, and community eye health initiatives.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent qualification.
- Postgraduate degree in Ophthalmology from a recognized institution.
- Registration and a valid practicing license as a Specialist Ophthalmologist from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development.
- Strong leadership ability with capacity to guide and develop the Ophthalmology Department.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach to healthcare.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Respect for and alignment with the values of a faith-based healthcare institution.
- Willingness to serve in a rural hospital setting.
Experience needed
- At least two (2) years' postgraduate working experience will be an added advantage.
