Background
Shortlist Search is the exclusive recruitment partner for the Human Practice Foundation (HPF) to find its next Country Director for Kenya. HPF is a Danish INGO dedicated to creating lasting change through a unique model that combines school infrastructure, quality learning, and economic empowerment.
HPF is doing critical work in some of the most remote and marginalised areas in Kenya, where fewer than 30% of children complete secondary education. Currently supporting 39 schools across Meru, Laikipia, Isiolo, and Narok counties, the organisation has a clear ambition to expand to 200 schools over the next decade. The new Country Director will provide the strategic leadership, senior external representation, and country-level accountability needed to guide this massive high-impact expansion.
Responsibilities
- Champion Regional Fundraising & Representation: Act as HPF's senior representative in Kenya with donors, government partners, and strategic stakeholders.
- Provide Organisational Leadership: Create leadership and operational structures that support growth while ensuring high performance and team sustainability.
- Drive Predictable Implementation: Ensure HPF's programmes are feasible, repeatable, and predictable as the organisation scales.
- Maintain Financial Discipline & Risk Management: Own the operational budget and oversee financial integrity.
Qualifications and Experience
This is a role of immense regional impact, perfect for a leader with senior experience in an NGO, foundation, or mission-driven organisation operating in complex or resource-constrained environments. We are seeking someone with a proven track record of scaling programmes, strong financial acumen, and deep contextual sensitivity to Kenya.
Additional Details
The role will require travel across Kenya and is - ideally - based in Nanyuki, though we are open candidates based in Nairobi as well.
