JOB PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Credit Manager, the Credit Officer shall have responsibility of loan appraisals and analysis, disbursement and repayment as well as providing accurate credit information and advice to members in line with established policies and procedures to ensure the overall quality and performance of the institution’s loan book. In addition, the Officer will execute established and new debt recovery processes to ensure overall performance of the Society’s loan portfolio in line with established benchmarks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Credit Function Roles

  • Developing customer relationships by handling members and providing accurate information on the Society’s products, services and guidelines.
  • Conducting loan appraisals, analysing and verifying loan applications using credit scores, sound lending practices, regulatory requirements and sound judgment to determine the members’ creditworthiness to facilitate management/ board decisions in compliance with established credit policies and procedures;
  • Assist in ensuring the correct safeguard of all securities and maintaining a comprehensive, accurate and complete register of the securities and loans/ advances;
  • Conducting approved member and field visits to monitor project/ business performance and to determine the client’s financial position in meeting new or ongoing loan repayment obligations;
  • Identify continuous credit operational improvement opportunities and service efficiency initiatives; recommend solutions, and champion the implementation of agreed upon changes;
  • Assist in maintaining a healthy credit portfolio as per the Credit Policy, the Sacco Societies Regulations, prudential guidelines and other relevant regulations.
  • Assist in monitoring the performance of the Society’s loans to members and ensuring adherence to loan repayment schedules;
  • Analyze delinquent accounts and implementing recovery measures in line with the Society’s Credit Policy and established Procedures;
  • Liaise with external service providers such as advocates, property valuers, debt collectors, auctioneers and credit bureaus.
  • Contribute to designing and implementation of loan recovery management workflow for efficient debt recovery processes;
  • Update your supervisor on any challenges or customer difficulties that you may experience in credit services on a daily basis;
  • Remain current on credit industry trends and implement best practices that result in improved performance.
  • Assume other special activities and responsibilities from time to time as assigned by the Management of the Society.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or equivalent.
  • 3-5years of experience in Credit.
  • Professional qualification in Credit Management.
  • High integrity, honesty and ethical behavior.
  • Credit and Debt management.
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills.
  • Excellent communication and follow-up skills.
  • Marketing and training skills.
  • Good knowledge of Sacco Societies Operations and SASRA guidelines and regulations.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and Ms office applications.
  • Conversant with security perfection process.
  • Knowledge in Credit / Banking management.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Accurate analytical skills.
