The purpose of the job is to manage and maintain the organization’s Database Systems, ensuring their performance, security, and availability. The role involves installing, configuring, and troubleshooting database systems, ensuring data integrity, implementing backup strategies, and optimizing database performance.

Key responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain database management systems (DBMS).
  • Monitor database performance, making adjustments as necessary to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Implement and manage database backups and disaster recovery plans to guarantee data integrity and availability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, providing support for users and other departments.
  • Ensure database security by implementing access control, encryption, and other security measures.
  • Perform regular database performance tuning and optimization to improve speed and efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain database documentation, including system configurations, backup schedules, and user manuals.
  • Collaborate with developers to design and implement databases that support application development needs.
  • Assist in the development of business continuity plans related to database operations.
  • Support audits and compliance checks related to database systems and security.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, security protocols, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Assist in database migrations, upgrades, and patch management to keep systems up to date.
  • Perform routine database maintenance tasks such as data archiving, deletion, and optimization.
  • Any other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor from time to time

 Educational Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Higher Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA), Oracle Certified Associate / Professional (OCA/P) or similar Certifications are highly advantageous.
  • Systems Development and DevOps skills would be beneficial
  • Familiarity with the Data Protection Act (2019) and related security standards would be beneficial.

Job Experience/Qualifications

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in database administration, system development or a related field.

Technical & Behavioral Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of database management systems (DBMS), including SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL.
  • Expertise in database performance tuning and optimization.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • High level of confidentiality and integrity.
  • Must demonstrate high integrity and ethical practice
  • Must demonstrate ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Must be a team player who is able to work cordially in teams
  • Must demonstrate ability to multitask.
  • Must demonstrate commitment to operational effectiveness
  • Should have ability to solve problems by applying relevant business knowledge
  • Should demonstrate professional expertise in the relevant work area
  • Must have the ability to communicate for both written and oral communication
  • Must be a flexible person, who is willing to learn and able to work flexible hours to achieve goals.
  • Must have knowledge in use of MS office packages,  ICT Database Security, Systems Development
