Job Overview
Responsible for harnessing the organization's knowledge and resources to produce sales forecasts that will be used in Sales and Operations Planning. Continuously improve the sales forecasting processes and systems, ensuring that forecast accuracy is consistently improving. The Demand Planning Department is the integration point into the sales and commercial organization. This position leads the dialogue each month for their respective customers and products with key counterparts in Sales and Marketing.
Main Activities/Tasks
• Prepare background information to support sales forecasting
• Collect and collate market and customer intelligence, and make it available to everybody involved in the forecasting process
• Analyze sales trends and identify the key drivers of sales of key products and product groups
• Develop statistical forecasts
• Develop statistical forecast models
• Gather, analyses and validate all data that will be used in preparing statistical forecasts.
• Prepare statistical forecasts for use in the sales forecasting process Sense-check statistical forecasts and highlight any unexpected trends or forecasts. Prioritize the forecasts
• Develop the rules and methods for prioritizing forecasts
• based on business priority and forecasters' ability to improve forecast accuracy
• Work with the Sales and Marketing teams to integrate market intelligence into the forecasts
• Work with Sales and Marketing to ensure that their market and customer knowledge and plans are reflected in the forecasts.
• Prepare and support the Forecast Review process
• Prepare reports and data that will be used in the forecast review
• Process

• Follow-up with all participants to ensure that actions agreed in the forecast reviews are completed in a timely manner
• Measure and report forecast accuracy
• Develop and reach agreement on appropriate measures of forecast accuracy and forecast
• bias. Prepare regular reports on forecast accuracy,
• Analyze trends and identify opportunities for improving the accuracy of future sales forecasts
• Lead root-cause analysis into major forecast variances
• Review past forecasting performance and identify major forecast variances

• Lead root-cause-analysis initiatives and formulate actions and plans to ensure that they do not re-occur.
• Lead initiatives to improve forecast accuracy
• Identify and lead the implementation of opportunities to improve forecast accuracy. These could include collaboration with customers and channel partners and effective use of end-consumer sales data.
• Develop and monitor the rules for "consuming the forecasts" and accepting orders
• Establish a set of agreed rules for "consuming the forecasts" and for accepting orders from customers for forecasted and un-forecasted demand.
• Monitor the application of these rules and identify opportunities for improvement
• Work with the New Product Development team to forecast sales of new products Monitor the sales performance of new products and develop a history that can be used as a guide in future launches
• Provide input to the forecasts for new products
• Monitor the impact of promotions, competitor activity and other events on sales
• Assess the impact of promotions and other events on sales
• Develop repository of information that can be used to support future forecasting and risk analysis Monitor and report on significant variances between sales forecasts, budgets and business plans Identify report on any significant variances between forecasted sales and the organization's budgets and business plans.
• Coordinate with production planner in handling exceptions
• Work with production planners to manage exceptions caused by significant, unexpected events in sales and operations.
• Ensure that the sales forecasting systems are used effectively
• Manage the data used by the sales forecasting system
• Function as the administrator and super-user of the sales forecasting system.
• Train users to use the systems effectively
• Provide input to the development of inventory policies and parameters
• Provide data on sales variability, forecast accuracy and future forecasts that are used in setting safety stocks and inventory planning parameters
• Develop Standard Operating Procedures for the sales forecasting processes
• Ensure that all documentation for the sales forecasting processes and systems is up-to-date and complies with company standards.
Essential Criteria:
• Hold a degree or equivalent qualification in a related discipline
• Minimum of 4 years' experience in Demand Management / Business Analysis
• Demonstrated proficiency in statistics, forecasting & forecasting methods with understanding of their financial & operational impacts
• Proven experience in delivering business solutions through Excel or Databases (VBA)
Desirable Criteria:
Supply Chain Certification preferred
