Deputy Headteacher Job Description Chantilly Schools
To assist the Headteacher in the day-to-day strategic and operational management of the school, with a
major focus on the quality of teaching and learning, learner welfare, and the maintenance of a disciplined,
positive, and productive school environment in line with the school's ethos and the requirements of the
Kenyan CBE.
Key Responsibilities (Emphasis on Discipline)
1. Strategic and Operational Leadership
● Deputizing: Undertake the full professional duties of the Headteacher in their absence, ensuring the
seamless operation and safety of the school.
● School Improvement: Contribute significantly to the formulation, implementation, and monitoring of
the School Improvement Plan (SIP) and school policies.
● Daily Management: Oversee and manage daily school routines, including the school calendar,
timetable, assemblies, and supervision rotas.
2. Learner Discipline, Behaviour, and Welfare
● Discipline Authority: Serve as the principal authority and strategist for learner discipline and
behaviour management. This includes consistent enforcement of the school's Code of Conduct and
Discipline Policy across all grades.
● Behaviour Intervention: Lead the implementation of a positive behaviour support system and
manage all serious disciplinary incidents, utilizing restorative justice practices where appropriate, and
ensuring thorough documentation of all cases.
● Pastoral Leadership: Lead the school’s pastoral care system, ensuring the well-being and
social-emotional development of all learners is prioritized, and that vulnerable students receive
appropriate support.
● Safeguarding Lead: Serve as the designated lead for learner safeguarding and child protection,
ensuring all staff are trained and protocols are rigorously followed in compliance with local
regulations.
● Parent Liaison on Conduct: Be the senior point of contact for parents/guardians regarding complex or
sustained issues of learner conduct, promoting a supportive partnership to address behavioural
challenges.
● Staff Training on Conduct: Lead professional development for teachers on effective classroom
management strategies, positive discipline techniques, and non-violent communication.

● Authoritative and Fair Leadership in student conduct. ● Exceptional leadership, organizational, and conflict resolution skills. ● Deep understanding of child psychology and positive discipline strategies. ● Commitment to student-centered learning and a rigorous safeguarding culture.
Education: A minimum of a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Degree from a recognized institution. ● Certification: Must possess current and valid Teachers Service Commission (TSC) registration. ● Experience: A minimum of 5 years of progressive teaching experience in a reputable primary or secondary school, with at least 3 years in a leadership position and proven success in managing student discipline and complex pastoral issues. ● Preferably male of 30 years and above ● Proven record in handling discipline cases. ● Must be CBE trained with certification.
