Job Purpose

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Data Management and Data Governance. The job holder is a subject matter expert responsible for:

  • Implementing the data warehousing process for the Research Department.
  • Implement guidelines for data handling.
  • Track quality and resolve data-related issues.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Responsibilities

  1. Ensuring all research data is placed in a central repository (enterprise data warehouse-EDW)
  2. The role is fundamental in driving the Bank towards its Vision and data-driven future by ensuring accuracy, timeliness and availability of data.

Technical and Operational Responsibilities

  1. Knowing where all research data is located, definitions and meaning, economic and statistical rules, data flows, data quality, documentation.
  2. Coordinating with data compilers in various data units in the Research Department to collate and ensure all research data is up to date in the EDW in a timely manner.
  3. Monitoring data quality and preparing and implementing data quality improvement initiatives.
  4. Analysing data quality issues and proposing and executing resolution.
  5. Work with Research analysts to identify data pain points and propose/execute solutions
  6. Collaborate with database administrators and other data management professionals in the Bank to support analytics in the Department.

Other Responsibilities

  1. Provide support to ensure compliance with Bank policies and processes including staff performance appraisals.
  2. Contribute, as appropriate, to the performance of other functions in the Bank and to the overall achievement of the Bank’s mandates and strategic objectives.
  3. Mentor, coach and mobilize teams to achieve Division’s objectives.
  4. Support capacity building initiatives at the Divisional level.
  5. Coordinate the team on external collaboration and networking with other institutions

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Mathematics or Statistics or related field from a recognised university.
  2. Master’s Degree in Economics, Statistics or related field.

Work Experience

  1. At least five (5) years’ experience in compilation of macroeconomic statistics and/or analysis.
  2. At least three years’ experience working with relational databases and SQL
  3. Experience working with business intelligence and reporting solutions such as Oracle BI.
  4. Experience working with providers of economic data
  5. Understanding of statistical reporting
  6. Experience working in an agile team.

  1. Ability to manage standard definitions and metadata for critical data elements in macroeconomic statistics. Hence,
    • Good understanding of internationally accepted best practices for compilation of macroeconomic statistics.
  2. Good understanding of database structures:
    • Ability to construct or manipulate databases to produce analytics or reports.
    • Ability to navigate databases and find and correct errors in the data.
  3. Broad-based knowledge of Research data for which they are the steward.
  4. Knowledge of how other departments processes related to Research data.
  5. Good understanding on the data needs by users for effective policy formulation
  6. Good understanding on the regional and international data requirements
  7. Strong project management skills and practices
  8. Problem solving skills – Role requires use of problem-solving skills to detect the causes of errors in the data and to determine solutions that protect the integrity of the data.
